Chapter 2- The Doctor
It was a ten 分 drive to the hospital in Columbus, I sat and stared out the window of my father's farming truck that was for emergencies only. My mother had stayed at ホーム to finish ディナー and tend to the younger children.
My father carried me inside and sat me down on one of the hard wooden chairs. The emergency room was empty apart from the two of us and a mother and her screaming infant. I tried to focus my thoughts on something other than the horrible pain in my leg. I thought about the grand adventures Tom, Lily and I had gone on in the past few days. My father came and sat 次 to me. “The doctor will be able to see あなた within the 次 ten minutes,” he informed me. I nodded and swung my good leg back and forth.
“I'm sorry,” I told him, turning my head to glance at him.
He sighed as he thought of what to say. “Esie.” he used the nickname I had 与えられた myself at two years old. “You need to learn to be もっと見る responsible. あなた are practically a woman now. あなた are going to have to get married and have a family,” he didn't look at me as he 発言しました this. Father, daughter talks had a history of being awkward and it always seemed to be about the same thing. Marriage.
The 次 few 分 while we waited were uncomfortable to say the very least. Neither of us 発言しました a word. We both knew it would make the situation もっと見る awkward than it was already. Then the doctor came out. Except, I wasn't sure if he was a doctor または an angel. He was the most handsome man I had seen in my life. He walked over to where I was sitting with a grace あなた didn't see anywhere. Then he spoke. “Esme Platt?” he asked in the smoothest, most..... soft voice imaginable. That was the only way I could think to explain it.
“Y-yes sir,” I nodded looking up at him.
“Alright Miss. Platt.” he looked down at the clipboard he was holding. “It says here that there is a possibility of a fracture in your leg is that correct?” I nodded again. “Alright. Do あなた mind if I carry you?” he asked.
“Yes,” I whispered. My voice barely audible. To put it mildly, I was 芝居 like a total fool. He lifted me off the seat, holding me like あなた would hold a small child. He seemed to be having no trouble at all. I shrugged it off and noticed how completely freezing his skin was. I shivered.
“I'm sorry. I have poor circulation,” he told me. “It's hereditary.”
“It's alright. Thank あなた for helping me,” I told him.
“That. Is no problem at all,” he smiled a brilliant whiter, than white smile as he set me down on the examination table. “Lift your head to the side please,” he told me. I did as he 発言しました and he started to push gently on certain areas asking me periodically if it hurt when he put pressure on it. I 発言しました no everytime, truthfully and he concluded that there was no damage to my head other than the small scratches I had received from the twigs slashing at my face.
“Now, I am going to take a look at your leg.” he 発言しました moving his cool hands to rest on my lower right leg. He moved his hands quickly and efficiently along it apparently checking for a break. I closed my eyes. There was pain involved in his gentle examination. I gritted my teeth and tried to deal with it. “I'm afraid your leg is in fact broken Miss. Platt.” he informed me after a few moments.
“Please call me Esme, Dr. Cullen,” I told him smiling a little.
“Alright Esme. If あなた will call me Carlisle. Dr. Cullen makes me feel a bit too old,” he flashed his brilliant smile again. I couldn't help but nod. “Now. We're going to have to put a cast on it,” he walked out of the room. I guessed he was going to get supplies for my cast.
I sat silently letting my thoughts completely consume me while I waited for his return. He was back within the minute, carrying a box to hold all that he needed. He set it 次 to me and began to work quickly and efficiently on casting my leg. I let a few tears slip out. That was unavoidable. The cast was tight and I knew he wasn't trying to hurt me. “Alright Esme.” he smiled and stood out of the crouch that he had been in the entire time. “I believe that will do.”
“Thank あなた Do- Carlisle,” I grinned.
“Now. We'd better get あなた back out to your father,” he told me. He handed me a pair of crutches, to use only if it was imperative that I walk. He carried me back out and handed me off to my father. “Thank あなた for your help Dr. Cullen,” he 発言しました walking towards the door.
“It was my pleasure,” Carlisle smiled at me and winked. I beamed back at him. “Thank あなた for your patience. That's a wonderful girl あなた have there,”
“I know she is,” my father smiled and walked out the door.
