Whether it\'s a blunt fringe, short layers, dip-dye or a whole new shade of hair, the new year brings with it the perfect opportunity to test out the most coveted hairstyles and hair trends sported by celebrities and street-style stars. We asked the UK\'s top hairstylists and colourists to find out what they predict will be the biggest hair trends of 2017.
Those with angular facial features should embrace the androgynous look with both hands this year. However, this isn\'t just a look reserved for high cheekbones and sharp jawlines.
Celebrity hairstylist George Northwood says: \'Nothing can be as transformative to a face as a crop but it\'s a dramatic change. The softer the face, the stronger and more angular cut you can go for and vice versa.\'
It\'s important to emphasise this isn\'t a look for the faint-hearted.
\'Do keep in mind you are looking at a couple of years to get to shoulder length or longer so it\'s not a change to leap into. Having said that, if you love changes then it\'s great because you can enjoy every stage from crop to length again. As with any dramatic change you may need to adjust your clothes and make-up to feel like \'you\',\' adds George.
This time of year plays havoc with our hair, resulting in flyaway curls and kinks no straightener can tame.
Co-founder of Bleach London Alex Brownsell urges us to embrace the curls in a big way this year.
was my biggest hairspiration of 2016. Get that existential crisis on the prairie look by attacking your hair with curling tongs and hoping for the best. This isn\'t an every day look because of the time it takes, but is a perfect way of killing a few hours between narrative loops. Or try a triple barrel tong to give more of an 80s style.\'
To keep the curl, Alex suggests using Bumble and Bumble thickening spray before blow drying before setting the curls with L\'Oréal Paris Elnett Hairspray. \'Don\'t be shy – the more the better as it will keep the style in for longer,\' she adds.

Not just for the office Christmas do, jewelled hair clips are
Do as Ashley Williams AW17 did by wearing one statement clip to the side or fully embrace the trend Toga AW17 style by fixing multiple mismatched jewels all over.
Beauty shoot stylist to the stars Ben Cooke says, \'If you\'re going to try the multi-jewelled hair clip trend, you need a good amount of texture in your hair so they don\'t slip and slide and fall out.
This is better done on hair that\'s slightly dirty. Add some dry shampoo at the root - I love Aussie Miracle Dry Shampoo Mega Instant. Then randomly tong your mid lengths and a few ends to create the texture.
Then, using your fingers, roughly mess it up.  Quickly your hair pull up into a loose ponytail and half pull it through to achieve a messy bun.
Then place your clips wherever you like,  just remember you don\'t need to see them all  when you look front on in the mirror.\'
Yup, somehow 2017 hair trends are all about giving curls a go
bringing back the super straight hair your 15-year-old self totally mastered.
Ben\'s secret to super smooth straight locks?
\'For me this is all about a perfect blow dry. Start with freshly washed and beautifully conditioned hair, gently detangle with a tangle teaser and then also go over it with a fine tooth comb.
This will start the process of smoothing the cuticle so it looks extra shiny.
Using your hairdryer, blow dry from root to tip with the air flow pointing down the hair shaft towards the ends. Take your time!
Only then, if needed, use your straighteners on their lowest heat setting to calm any kinks. Play around with strong middle parting or low side partings to suit your face shape.\'
Take a page out of our Gallic sisters\' book this year and ask for the \'Brigitte Bangs\' – \'bangs\' meaning a fringe to us non-American folk – which has been sported by the likes of Chloe Grace Moretz, Penelope Cruz, Alexa Chung, Taylor Swift and Goldie Hawn.
Jamie Stevens – owner of Jamie Stevens Hair – advises if you\'re choosing this style for 2017:  \'They key is finding the right one for your face. Have a consulation with your stylist so they can assess your face shape and determine the perfect fringe for you.
\'A fringe, when cut well, can work wonders and provides a great focal point,\' he added.
Jamie Stevens – who has styled hair for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Elle Macpherson and Eva Herzigova –predicts the ponytail is making a comeback in 2017.
\'There really is one for everyone. Try tying it with a loose ribbon for a pretty touch. Combining cool accessories with a ponytail gives you limitless combinations that work for any occasion,\' he says.
\'Tilt your head when brushing into a ponytail and secure to ensure the underneath of your ponytail is tight. Many people automatically tip their hair forward but this will cause a saggy bottom. When your hair is secured, spray hairspray onto your brush and smooth it over to banish flyaways,\' he advises.
Darren Ambrose – former British Hairdresser of the Year – says that while the bob will continue to be a firm favorite this year, we should expect to see it with a modern twist.
\'The bob never goes out of fashion but we\'ll see a different line in the bob - rather than a classic cut we\'ll see shorter back and longer sides or a more pageboy look, with soft layered texture to enhance the movement of the hair cut,\' he says.
With the new year dawns a chance to go bold and experimental with colour.
And, while we thought last year\'s succulent-inspired hair trend was a too bit \'out there\', L\'Oreal Professional\'s UK Colour Spokesperson Jack Howard says green will be one of our go-to hues for 2017.
\'Green shades were definitely on the rise during the last few months of 2016 and Pantone\'s colour of the year Greenery has already been making waves in the hair world at the start of 2017.
\'The secret to a wearable green is to make it look expensive – metallics and deep emeralds are the coolest shades,\' he adds.
London Hairdresser of the Year finalist Karine Jackson is championing the evolution of the mullet this year. Yes, really.
\'The point of the mullet is the back\'s longer and the front\'s shorter - by adapting it to age and face shape it becomes the MoMu and it\'ll work for anyone. The mullet describes a shape and this new version is a fashionable way to wear it,\' she says.
But, don\'t go thinking it\'s as harsh of a cut as it dounds.
\'We\'ve made it softer, less angular - it\'s a more glamorous take and is more blended and tapered than its original incarnation - in the 80s it was virtually two haircuts - it was short round the ears - now it\'s longer round the ears but still shorter on top, and this is a more seamless way to wear it,\' she says.
In order to prep you hair, Jackson suggests using Organic Colour Systems Thermal 2 Twenty before styling to protect and add shine and suggests you rough dry the roots before using a round brush to blow-dry.
Take inspiration from Marc Jacob\'s SS16 neon 90s rave show and throw it back to multi-coloured locks this year.
According to Alex Brownsell, the biggest trends she\'s seeing at the Bleach salons right now are neon and glow in the dark.
\'I\'m no stranger to funky tints but these new colours are the first that have ever made me feel old. All these kids are coming in wanting to outdo each other with intense digital shades that make their heads look almost CGI. Think sulphuric acid melting a heap of discarded Argos tinsel,\' she says.
