I love how because Spock and Nero went back in time, things are completely different. Now in future movies they won't be retreading water and you won't be able to predict what's going to happen. They can do whatever they want now! It's made the franchise new in a way it hasn't been in a long time.

I loved it!! The movie was my first Star Trek expiriance, but I really enjoyed it. It was like a practically new story. Now the sequals can be bound by no prewritten rules.

I mean I LOVE the original Star Trek, but this is a great new version! Since Spock/Nero went back in time things had to change, they messed with the timeline!

If they had just followed the basics of what happened before then they couldn't have varied things and made them different, they would have had to have been much more strict in their writing, and acting. This way the actors and writers can put their own spin on the characters and events!

they didn't really rewrite history though because this is an alternative reality that is parallel to the other one and doesn't modify the other and i LOVE IT! It's an amazing idea for a reboot. They couldn't make a remake of the other version it would be doomed. Here they can explore the whole what if angle. The Spock/Uhura thing is the main example of it: met each other sooner, became friends, fell in love= get the chance to be together that they didn't get in the other timeline. Kirk and Bones also got the chance to become best friends here before Spock got in the picture.
