What are リスペクト for?

I've been here for almost a year, and I should probably know what they are, but I don't. Do they do something special, または are they just a way of complimenting someone for something they have done?

They're supposed to be 与えられた to someone when あなた like a video, link, article, etc. they 提出されました または a コメント they made. Complimenting someone's アイコン または モットー is good too.

Obviously though, they're not really used like that anymore. Years 前 there weren't walls on ファンポップ and so people would talk to each other によって propping back and forth. I think it mostly just stuck, and people like the look of having high リスペクト counts. *shrugs*
