Sawyers flash-sideways

This 質問 might be a total spoiler for people who haven't seen Recon yet.

So how come Sawyer is not a conman anymore in the flash sideways? For the others the main things that changed after LA X was that they didn't get to the island, right? I mean, ok, Jack's family life changed, too, but still most of things progressed pretty much the same way as they would have, same goes for Kate, Sayid, Locke, Sun and Jin. Ben's life of course is totally different, but I mean it only makes sense that his life basically changed from childhood on.

So the only explanation I have for Sawyer then is, that Jacob then never touched him (did he still touch the other people then?) and that Jacob touching him actually was what made him become a conman. I think that Jacob being the defining element that makes the difference is the only explanation.

What's your theories on that?

And also: Did あなた notice when Richard was returning to the Black Smoke that there was a Concrete Pillar he walked by? Concrete in 1867?

I don't really think it's that odd. As he told Charlotte, there was a point in his life where he knew he'd be either a cop または a criminal. In the world we knew, he chose to be a criminal. But in this world he chose to be a cop.

So really, it was just one decision that changed his life. And everyone made different decisions, didn't they? Sayid never intended to marry Nadia, Jack had a son, Kate's on the run (oh wait... that one's the same :P)

So, even if everone else's lives were semi-close to what they were, they all made different decisions somewhere along the road. Sawyer's just changed his life もっと見る then the others' did.

He could have been affected によって someone who would not have been sent to the island if the pocket hadn't been discovered. e.g. Juliet was sent over to work out why women couldn't have babies, so I bet she is in the real world in the parallel universe. Another example is Desmund - he was on the plane when it landed instead of in the hatch, pressing the button.

But this is ロスト we are talking about here, so who knows?

I found these 'flash sideways' things pretty confusing at first, because I kept thinking that everyone would be the same person they were when they crashed on the island. Supposedly the explosion at the end of season 5 was supposed to make it so they never crashed, but why would it change what happened to them BEFORE they crashed?
But I guess the writer's thought it would be a lot もっと見る interesting if they had completely different lives, like an alternate universe kind of thing.
It's a lot easier to figure out ロスト when あなた aren't trying to make everything make sense, because.. it's a screwed up show, it's not the real world. Weird things happen, that's what makes it great!

I think it was the one decision to either be a criminal または a cop that shaped Sawyer's future. Maybe since Jacob never gave Sawyer that pen he never wrote his letter which kept all his emotions bottled up inside and his resentment for the worl building.

The flash-sideways weren't all based on how their lives would have changed if there wasn't the island/if they didn't crash. It was based on fixing a regret. For example, Jack's regret was that he never got to learn if he could be a better father than his own, so in his flash-sideways he has a son. Jin and Sun's regret was that they told her parents about their relationship, enabling her father to force Jin into his criminal business, so in their flash-sideways their relationship is still a secret. Sawyer's regret is becoming a conman, so in his flash-sideways he's become a detective and is tracking down his namesake that way instead.
