How do あなた think is it that most Hogwarts professors aren't in a relationship?

Slughorn+McGonagall
Flitwick+Pomfrey
Sorry, I've ran out of Ideas, but I do have some theories.

It is known that Professor McGonagall was born in 1925, while Professor Slughorn was born either 1920 または 1919, so he could have taught her when she was there in 1936. This is all assuming that most witches and wizards go to Hogwarts when they turn Eleven. But then...Wait, Wait, Wait a minute! I've got it all wrong...He was probably a couple of 年 levels before her, so I correct myself. He wasn't her teacher. Sorry! Don't mind me! (Scoots out of the room uncomfortably)

How do あなた know they weren't? Not a lot of focus was on the teachers. With the exception of Dumbledore and Severus, what do we know about them? Pretty much nothing, except what subject they teach.

It 発言しました in CoS that only a few teachers (Dumbledore, Severus, McGonagall, Filch, Hagrid, Flitwick, Sprout, Trewlany, and - I'm assuming - Madam Pompfrey) stay over during the holidays. As Severus, McGonagall, Flitwick and Sprout are all heads of house, they may be required to stay during the school year. It's possible the other teachers go ホーム to their families.

Oh, and Hagrid was also in a serious relationship. With Madam Maxime.

their personal lives are not really ever discussed but i think that they probably dedicated their lives to hogwarts, also snape isnt in a relationship because he ロスト the only woman he ever loved at least thats my view

In the case of Minerva, I've always thought of her as a widow, with grown-up children, so nobody needs her from a domestic point of view, so she could devote her life to Hogwarts.

Well, before knowing the truth, I always thought that Dumbledore and McGonagall had a thing...But in general terms, I think that Hogwarts' professors aren't in relationships because Hogwarts is their lives and it takes so much time...

How can they have a family life when they LIVE at that school? There are barely any occasions when they can go home....they barely use their real homes(as we can see ...Spinners End for example)

But this is an interesting question, I've never actually thought of it before now =]

I'm guessing that, since most if not all, mentioned staff stay there during the holidays (or most of them anyway) and during term time, then perhaps they don't get married/get in relationships due to time. Let's face it, If あなた were married to または in a relationship with someone who was never there it wouldn't be too much fun, they would miss birthdays,christmasses,anniversaries possibly even births, あなた would feel totally alone and when they were around あなた would feel like strangers. So it's possible the professors don't seem to be attached to anyone because it would seem kind of pointless and unfair, Plus mayhaps they don't 日付 eachother because like most work places, it's against school/company rule/policy to have personal relationships with fellow colleagues.
