I'm watching a 10 year old boy this summer and he's decided to read the HP books (of his own free will. I did not threaten him. Honest! =D). He's just finished the first book and I lost track of how many times he's asked me about the "other" Weasleys. He can't seem to wrap his head around the fact that more characters exist than were shown in the movies - "Was Charlie the one--" "No. Charlie Weasley was not in the movies." "Oh. Was he the one in the first--" "That was Percy. Charlie Weasley was not in the movies." "But--" *groan* Damn you, movie-makers!
#7. Yeah, it might have been nice to see "little Dudders" (good Gods the Dursleys are idiots) behave like an actual human being, but really, it's the Dursleys, I couldn't give a fk less.
#5. Bill and Percy should have been left in. It makes me ill that they completely screwed Percy on his change-of-heart in DH2. Jerks.
#3. Yeah. WTF was that? Hayman said he thought the death JK wrote for Wormtail was childish. Childish? Stick it up your hooter.
#2. Yeah. The Goddamned Marauders. Another "WTF were they thinking" point.
#1. The Half-Blood F**KING Prince. I agree 100%. How dense are the film-makers, really?
My personal Honorable Mention that they didn't even touch on: Phineas Nigellus Black. If you've read the books then you probably understand; if you haven't, it doesn't mean anything to you. And what about Sirius and Remus both getting screwed by people who could simply not comprehend how important they were?
#10: Nothing significant?! Sure, Peeves never took a shot at Voldemort, but his determination to infuriate Umbridge made him a hero in my book! I was extremely let down when I watched the first film and Peeves was nowhere to be seen. I really love that character.
#7: I was really irked that this was left out! I thought it was such a sweet moment when I read it in the books, and I was glad to see that despite Vernon and Petunia's nastiness, Dudley had enough sense to become a decent person all on his own. It was a great reinforcement of the "your choices determine who you are" statement that Dumbledore made. Ah well. At least we got to see it in the deleted scenes, which is more than we can say for the rest of the stuff on the list :/
#5: Definitely should have been left in! They could have at least skimmed over it in the films, especially Percy!
#3: I was on the edge of my seat, just waiting to see this happen and all I got was a lame, anti-climactic "ow".
#2: I couldn't believe that the movies never even mentioned who the Marauders really were! That was such a big deal to me when reading the books, I have no idea how the film makers didn't think it was significant!
#1: Yes, ditto and AMEN! I've ranted endlessly about this point so many times it's just redundant to do it again, but it *really* ticks me off!
These are all just a few of the reasons why the books are SO much better than the films! I understand they couldn't fit everything in, but some things they didn't even try to work out, and to the fans who have spent so many years loving these stories, it was kind of like a slap in the face.
