Season 6 rumors, reports of on-set sightings, and even some hints from fellow cast members, but now there’s finally word from Kit Harington himself that throws fuel on the “Jon Snow Lives“ fire. While the potential and probable return of Jon Snow is turning out to be the worst-kept secret in Westeros, this is the first we’ve seen of cracks from the actor himself. I’ll throw up a spoiler warning here because Harington drops some tantalizing hints that extend beyond the immediate fate of the Lord Commander.
According to the Dutch-language Belgian weekly television magazine
, Harington said the following in a “recent” interview in Paris while promoting
Harington: […] I often felt frustrated as well. I had to pass on amazing parts because I was attached to
So the show is like a [double-edged] sword to me: I owe a lot to it, but at the same time it has almost completely drained me. Oh well, I try not to think about it too much. The important thing is that I now know exactly how long I am still under contract, and in the meantime—
Harington: Nice try [laughs]. I can’t talk about that. Let’s just say that
will remain a part of my life for a while, I’ll probably be in my thirties when it’s over. One thing’s for sure: the day I’m no longer on
is the day I’ll bury myself in movie projects [laughs].
That translation comes courtesy of a Redditor, but you can go all Rosetta Stone on the original text yourself if you so desire. But before we jump to
many conclusions (“It’s official! Kit Harington will be on
until he’s 30!”), there are a few mitigating factors to consider. The article says the interview was “recent,” but there’s no telling
for comment but has not heard back at this time.) Harington has been fielding Jon Snow–related questions while trying to talk
There’s also plenty of room for ambiguity here. Harington saying he’s under contract is not the same as saying he’ll appear. Nor does it guarantee that
he appears it will be as anything more than a corpse or a figure in a flashback or vision. But this is certainly a far cry from what Harington had to say in post-finale interviews. (“It's final. He’s dead,”or “I’m dead. I’m not coming back next season.”)
we want to take Harington 100 percent at his word here, and quite literally, then maybe it’s worth noting that the Jon Snow actor will turn 30 in December 2016. Plenty of time to wrap up two more seasons of shooting. But you’d be wise to take this interview with a grain of salt (and smoke). Even the interviewer himself said the news seemed to good to be true. “Was Kit Harington (28) just screwing around with yours truly,” he writes, “or did he blatantly spill the beans?”
