Jonathan Pryce spotted on Game of Thrones set in Dubrovnik, and Spain prepares for filming 

season 5 in Croatia is finally winding down. After an intensive two weeks of shooting King’s Landing scenes in Dubrovnik, the production team is currently at work in Villa Sheherezade.

However, we haven’t had our last insight into filming in the city of Dubrovnik itself.

has recently acquired some images, one of which shows cast member Jonathan Pryce, who will portray the High Sparrow in the upcoming season. This gives us our first look at the actor on set and in costume.

There is a septa-like woman pictured with Pryce above. It is interesting that she is striding 

him as opposed to simply being in his general vicinity, being notably separate from the extras. This would seem to indicate an elevated level of importance in her role rather than simply being a background extra. At the very least, hers is likely a speaking role. Septa Unella, perhaps?

The rest of the images are of scenes at the Jesuit Staircase in the Old City. This block of filming took place from September 27th to October 1st, and there has been a plethora of images documenting it. The images below show what seems to be some sort of confrontation between Tommen and the Faith Militant. Cersei is notably absent, although Tommen is flanked by a large bodyguard consisting of both Kingsguard and Lannister men-at-arms.

notes that shooting there will not actually begin until the 10th, indicating that the production team will likely prepare props and sets over the first few days.

To hold us over until then, DeObia Oparei has confirmed that he will soon begin filming.

SPOILERY DETAILS for many of the Faith Militant scenes next season

“WiC”? I swear I’ve heard of that site somewhere. Anyway, nice pictures. It is good to have a sighting of Jonathan Pryce at last. I was beginning to think we might not see him as a lot of the KL Dubrovnik filming has taken place, but now we have so that is good.

It was posted before the latest images and includes a description of what’s shown, in even more detail, so we can assume it’s legitimate. If it’s indeed true, Littlefinger will leave Sansa to her own devices and go back to King’s Landing, and Lancel Lannister is back as well. Considering we’ve seen pretty much the last of Sansa’s story arc from the books, but that this whole season in King’s Landing IS from AFFC & ADWD, I wonder how much of an invention Littlefinger being there is. Will he go there in TWOW, but necessarily at a later time? Or is this completely made up for the show? I won’t call it “filler”, because something not being from the books does not mean it’s not important for the show. Still, it’s an interesting question to ponder.

The fact that he’ll be there as early as episode 4 indicates it will be an invented storyline, but I have no problem with that whatsoever. Also, LANCEL!!!!

Well…no. I won’t print something like unless I speak with the source myself to verify and see if they can back it up with some behind the scenes pics or details to show they aren’t just trolling.

This probably should be spoilered. Most of it seems plausible to be honest, except

the Littlefinger part. If he was to go back to the capital what would Sansa be doing? Off with Brienne? Surely not. But it’s difficult to see her being on her own for too long, so unless it’s a brief sojourn to the capital for LF I can’t think what’s going to happen here

Assuming those observations are true, Littlefinger’s return to KL is interesting. What would cause him to leave Sansa? Maybe his alliance with the Tyrells brings him back. Good to see that Lancel is back. But still no word on Kevan. At this point, if Kevan isn’t brought back into the story, who will take the role of the regent that tries to bring order to the realm only to be murdered by Varys? Certainly not Mace…

Another interesting observation from that post:

“One of the first scenes filmed with the extras was a scene where Loras (now a member of the Kingsguard) is practicing sword fighting and is ambushed by the Faith Militants.”

This must reference the scenes that were posted here last week. I didn’t think that it had been determined that Loras had joined the KG.

Unless he had a TARDIS or a Delorean, I don’t see how he could be trolling. He could be wrong about certain details, obviously, but he couldn’t possibly have guessed with so much detail back on October 1st things that haven’t become public until today because of these new photos. Of course, verifying it with the source is something you would need to do, and if you can get any more info or pics that’d be great, but I just can’t see how he could’ve made it up.

BTW, Loras joining the Kingsguard is an interesting development indeed, especially in the TV show, since Loras is the Heir of Highgarden. This may be a power-play by Cersei, using what his father Tywin had already threatened the Queen of Thorns with, but in reverse: Tywin forced the bethrothal of Loras and Cersei by establishing the alternative as Loras joining the Kingsguard, leaving the Tyrells without their heir. Cersei could actually DO it to rid herself of the marriage AND at the same time weaken the Tyrells. Two birds with one stone.

Also, I’m pretty sure that if Lancel is back so is Kevan. I hope so, anyway. Some of that report sounds too good to be true, but… honestly, I don’t see how he could’ve guessed days ago, and with so much detail, a scene that’s only been revealed today.

I believe that the person was trolling or rather he could have guessed everything of it from set photos and reports.

Could someone with a Westeros account ask him to submit it as news here?

The source posted their description long before these new photos surfaced. Yes, they could’ve made up the specifics about Loras, and Littlefinger and most all else, but not what’s shown on these pictures and they had already described four days ago. We should see if they have edited the original post with this new information or if it was like this from the beginning. If it was all already there, they didn’t have any reason to tarnish their truthful report with lies.

Wow this leaves a lot of questions. I hope someone can verify if it is true or not..

1. Lancel is back? If this is true, awesome news!

3. Faith Militant being shown as powerful a lot more than we directly see in the books (as I remember)

4. Littlefinger in King’s Landing? Like Jeb said then what’s going on with Sansa? Why would he need to go? As Luka asked: Show invention or future book material?

5. Timing would make sense- early/mid season. Enough time to show Cersei re-arming the Faith, Lancel joining, Tywin’s funeral being over, preparations to arrest Cersei and Margaery as the Faith Militant gains power.

6. Another question is, what is the fight with Loras about- under attack himself for his own bedroom antics or protecting his sister?

We don’t know anything about some of those details since we have no photos (that I know of) of some of the people mentioned shooting in Dubrovnik.. hmm.. maybe some will surface soon?

Clearly they’re being tighter on the casting leaks this year. Septa Unella has clearly been cast by now. Arya filming scenes means the Waif has likely been cast, and so we don’t know who they are. It’s good news for any of us holding out hope for others.

But it’s not unheard of for someone to troll Westeros with spoilers, including educated ones. He could really know people in the Faith Militant scenes or simply learnt somewhere else online that the steps scene included Tommen and other special details, then added stuff. Someone did something similar last year, for example around the finale, saying that Pod gets killed and a few other things.

But he has replied just now. And Eugene Simon does have that short cropped haircut…

All the info was out there before the “leak”. The only bit we haven’t heard of was the Tommen scene, and we don’t know for sure what that is.

. And it is a double whammy for the Tyrells, since Loras is the heir in the show. I believe it mostly because it’d be a clever move by Cersei, and it’d have the advantage of putting things more in line with the book version of Loras and Cersei’s marriage status. A Tyrell legacy problem arises, of course, but they’d get to that some day if need be.

Lancel’s haircut is one of the post’s sillier details. Someone linked a pic of Eugene with Kerry Ingram (and was it Aimee Richardson as well?) where he had a short haircut. That’s likely where the poster got the idea that if Eugene had a haircut, Lancel must too. Ever heard of wigs, dude? Wigs!

I know, the point is that it’s entirely possible that he just edited his post after WIC released their pics. The last edit wasn’t the one where the Tommen stuff was added, but what about the one before it?

Maybe I’m seeing something different in that Westeros post, but I see a bunch of stuff that was posted here days ago, things extrapolated from what we already know- Loras’s struggle, marketplace filming, the militant, the stairs with Olenna, and Margaery filming, the procession, etc. The only thing that would really be news would be Lancel and Littlefinger. And Gillen was seen around Dubrovnik, so that’s not really a huge leap of logic.

We have a process for posting news and it works. You wouldn’t believe how many people troll and make stuff up and submit random junk. We don’t post every single rumor without proof. When we get a little proof, then we’re usually more willing to give something attention. This posting could be 100% legit. But we don’t dedicate a new post to every single rumored report without any proof. Otherwise there would be a lot of bad news being posted here.

Right now all I want is to identify that actress who is the septa. Seems like it has to be Septa Unella, but we can’t be sure. She is familiar but I can’t place her. ARRGGHH

Loras joining the KG if it’s true makes me just a little bit happier! I don’t think there’s any need for Kevan but I’d find it very odd if they didn’t bring back Lancel as he’s tailor-made for this storyline with his link with Cersei and how he converts to the faith i nthe books.

Wyman Manderly is the new character I’m most looking forward to. According to the current poll in this site, most people share that opinion. I really hope he’s in, partly because of Davos and mostly because of Wyman’s wonderful twist and his powerful speech.

As for current filming… I’m gonna be so bummed if we don’t get anything from the villa. Illyrio is the returning character I’m most looking forward to have back with us, so I was really hoping for a confirmation. Maybe we’ll still get something, who knows.

I believe I saw the old high septon on a set photo from the Jesuit staircase but I could be wrong.

I think one of the biggest problems relating to the Westeros post is that it is from a new member. If it was regular poster it would be easier to believe, but until he predicts something (unexpected) that then happens I will believe it to be wrong.

If the Littlefinger part is legit, I think a logical show-reason could be that he hears about the Sparrows troubling brothels and goes back to KL to check on/protect his businesses. That could give Sansa time to further establish herself with Vale folk behind his back, if that’s the direction the show is going. Since everyone in the show has jetpacks he wouldn’t have to be there very long. He could also do more plotting with Tyrells while he’s there.

So, it might not be true, but it doesn’t really beggar the imagination.

yup. Also, all of the people posting “spoilers” on facebook fan pages are all fake as well. I looked back at their season 4 “spoilers” and they were bullshit. Such as “Coldhands is guaranteed to be in this season”. Basically beware of trolls. They try to sounds smart by using many details. In reality who remembers that many details from being on set?

Proof is required really. The problem is that there are trolls (not saying you are) who post plausible, but completely incorrect information.

I remember one last year about Crasters keep that basically said that Karl was holding Craster’s baby hostage after all the other mutineers are killed. They manage to kill Karl, and the baby became important later on in the season/series. Did it happen? Nowhere near.

That is why proof is needed, otherwise its just pure speculation.

If LF is in KL… It does actually fit in with the books, and Sansa’s last chapter from Feast. Sort of. In that last chapter, LF is absent while Sansa and the rest of the household make their way down from the Eyrie, due to Winter’s approach. It shows that Sansa has stepped up to some sort of leadership position; she’s in charge, ordering Maester Coleman around, manipulating little Robert/Robin, all in the absence of LF. While the circumstances of LF’s absence appear to be quite different here in the show, I think it’ll still be good to show Sansa acting on her own, just for an episode or two.

Unless Kevan was later cut, I have faith that he is in. Someone mentioned that he probably has no outdoor scenes, so that’s why we’ve yet to encounter him in set photos of Dubrovnik. Time will tell, of course.

It’s not verified. It was a Facebook post, completely unverified. Could easily be pure guesswork, much more easily than TristanSnow’s report here.

So here is a theory…very unlikely I know, but still it was a thought that crossed my mind.

So if Olenna Tyrell is in Kings Landing by episode 7 and leaving the Sept she was probably visiting Margaery. But it seems unlikely that they would only bring her back to visit Margaery. So could it be possible that she takes on Kevan’s role (if he is cut) and conciliates the Lannisters and Tyrells for the sake of unity. She wouldn’t be in the small council but more like a behind-the-scenes presence. In that case Varys could kill her because she was healing the rifts in the Realm and making up for Cersei’s mistakes.

It is a little far-fetched I know. But one thing is certain, her death by Varys hands would make up for a greater shock to the audience than killing Kevan.

I would love that, the Tyrells seriously need to start losing some people already!!! They’re the only major family that hasn’t suffered yet, plus they’re so power-hungry and slimy and aren’t even funny/entertaining to make up for it like the Lannisters

I’m not sure that “striding with him rather than being in the vicinity” matters in this specific pic. To me it looks like this is not a filmed scene, but two actors dressed to do a scene, rushing to a set (or somewhere). Plus the background is way to modern. But I do think it is Septa Unella rather than

Septa Lemore, who is probably in a different location if she’s not cut.

Lena was used only when they were shooting her face and in scenes for VFX where they will copy paste her face on the bodydouble… so when you see Cercei naked on the show, it’s a VFX shot of the bodydouble and Lena’s face on it…

How do you know that that’s what they were doing? Seems a little much doesn’t it? If they were going to do that route it would be much easier to digitally add in features on the body rather than the face. Superimposing faces is an imperfect science.

I disagree. I didn’t say it’s a filmed scene (because it’s quite obviously not). What I meant was that the two actors were walking towards something together.

It would be very strange if an actor and a random extra were just strolling about together on set. It’s much more likely that she is a cast member and thus in close proximity with Pryce between takes.

that seems……..intense. if its true, i really wonder what made Lena change her mind about the nudity (besides the obvious), because she seemed 100% ready to do it before.

Digital nudity is something that is done in movies sometimes but they do it in the opposite way. I’ve never heard of heads being superimposed. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t done because I don’t KNOW for sure but it sounds needlessly complex compared to the simpler route of superimposing nipples/other features.

In my humble opinion, they did it for legal reasons… extras were encouraged to throw twings at the body double but not on Lena as things flying infront of her face would be a problem in post production… also, if Lena got a peace of fake crap in here eye, they would have to pay her sh!tload of money… every scene was done three times, once with the double naked, once with Lena and extras yelling but not moving and a third time with a guy walking with a small greenscreen infront of him…

the same effect was used in season 2 with Pyat Pree

I’m not sure. They likely used a greenscreen for that too but my guess is that they filmed Ian Hanmore in multiple costumes and inserted them into the shots where there’s more than one of him. Face superimposing as I’ve said is not an exact science.

I doubt they’d show that on the VFX reel. A lot of actresses are cagey about the use of body doubles and the double wouldn’t necessarily want their face seen.

I agree. I mean it could be true, but I really don’t think so. Lena Headey has done nudity before and as many have mentioned (and I think I remember it as well) she was looking forward to the scene. Could she have changed her mind for some reason? Absolutely, but if she did, there are better ways of dealing with it than superimposing a face, as you said. The only time I can remember it being done for TV is Boardwalk Empire.

Also considering the huge emotional breakdown that Cersei has during the WOS would make superimposing faces all the more difficult. Personally I still believe that the body double did 95% of the nudity and especially all the scenes in which Cersei has various stuff thrown at her. But Lena also did some nudity on the last day of filming the walk (October 3rd) in which the set was even more closed than before and they’re were less extras and it was the end of the Walk so they applied some of the stuff on her (makeup) but she wasn’t actually having it thrown on her.

Well, that’s almost certainly true as Aiden Gillen was in Dubrovnik and we saw photos of him.

Okay, this is where you lost me as believer. This sounds totally impractical and doesn’t make sense at all. It’s not how they would’ve filmed multiple Pyat Prees, that is done by combining many takes into one. The one time I know of where it was done like your describing was in the Social Network, because David Fincher wanted each twin to have their own distinct body language so they used two actors but one face.

If they’re using a body double they would use cuts and angles instead of relying so heavily on special effects.

because its possible that he could be mistaken about a certain production detail but his description of the scenes are correct. like Greenjones said its possible that Tristan is right about some greenscreen work done, its just that the copy/paste faces thing is too much.

Septa Unella, appears to be Olivia Colman. I saw Locke not long ago On Demand and the actress playing the Septa appears to be Ms Colman, at least when I zoom in. The pic becomes too fuzzy to ascertain a 100% validity.

If that’s true that would be a big get for the show. The above picture doesn’t look like Colman to my eye though. Hopefully it is her (because she’s great and can do a lot more than just comedy) but we’d need more confirmation for this.

Olivia Colman is a pretty big TV actress in the UK. I think she has won BAFTAs the last two years. If they have got her it’s a bit of a coup, and would bring publicity to the show from a demgraphic less likely to watch the show normally.

Olivia Colman is a disembodied voice in Locke, (as is every actor except for Tom Hardy in the film), so I’m not sure why you brought it up. She’s been in a bunch of other things.

I wasn’t sure what exactly you meant since there aren’t that many septas identified in AffC in KL, so to me it was obvious that it has to be one of those few that film scenes with the HS and no ordinary extra. That’s if they have septas as extra, which until now I haven’t even considered as a possibility LOL. Position relative to Pryce (in front, back, left, right, in the background) seemed irrelevant to me.

I studied the pic and the Septa looks like Amanda Donohoe to me. I’m probably wrong but that’s my guess…

This may seem like a strange analogy, but the skepticism surrounding both Tristan Snow’s and Will Do’s (until his was verified) reports reminds me a lot of college basketball recruiting. Some people really do have legit. info., and even those with legit. info. can sometimes get things wrong, based upon something they’ve heard or seen that isn’t necessarily the whole picture. The folks with the legit. info. are regarded with caution, until and unless their info. can be verified, because of trolls who just like to make up stuff. I appreciate the caution with which the powers-that-be on WoW approach all reports. By that same token, I also appreciate those who choose to share what they know, or what they can of what they know, even though they probably know their reports will be met with a certain skepticism.

Doubt it’ll be Olivia Colman although she is an excellent actress and I’d be happy if she did feature ( She was brilliant in the great British comedy ‘Peep Show’ but never thought she’d go on to win BAFTAs!). Are we really certain that they used CGI nudity?! Can understand if they used a body double for the public walk but I can imagine Lena not having any issue with getting her kit off on a closed set. Possibly at the very beginning of the walk before she moves outside and the very end with Strong. I think that would be the best bet for continuity with the shots.

No way is that Coleman. Not in the slightest. She’s becoming a big name in TV and comedy, is an excellent well known actress and tends to have her own vehicles, not play bit parts.

I cried a little when I saw those (I didn’t, but almost). On a serious note I do think I’m gonna cry when the trailer comes. Oh, and on the actress discussion: That veil, turbant, scarf, I don’t know how to say it (not in english) but that thing on her head makes it very hardto guess who she is because it not only hides the hair but the shape of the head and stuff, so it’s harder to identify the actress.

Cool, people are trying to finally figure out who the Septa was, everyone was talking so much about Pryce and other aspects of the shoot but were ignoring the Septa, shame on you all. I still stand by my suggestion until proven otherwise, I know I have seen that actress in something recently (past month or two), and Colman has similar features, the headdress can alter some features because of how it can tighten and shift skin/muscle along the sides and jaw. Even Diana Rigg looks different with and w/o that silly headdress.

Yes Colman is a busy actress, but that filming took place the week before the Walk shoot, she could easily hop a plane and be there in 6 hours. Heck why not take a role that can be filmed between shooting on other projects. Some of the great Hollywood legends of old would be filming 2 and 3 projects at once back in the 30’s-60’s.

OT: After the first two weeks of the new tv season, I am frustrated with the lack of anything really, truly outstanding. You would think the networks would get the message after BB, GoT, MM, WD, HoC, etc. and rise to the occasion, but damn this season at the moment is suckville. They don’t even need to do anything original, there is a wealth of great books and book series out there to purchase the rights to and develop, it seems only Starz did so with Outlander (4 star show too). Do networks and production companies hate buying rights to literary works? GoT has shown you can adapt books successfully, if you are willing to up the ante. The networks also need to loosen up and really go for it for, ignoring so called moral groups. The Supreme Court and FCC have ruled the 10 pm and after slots can be adult only programming, except for Hannibal no network show has pushed the envelope.

I think she looks in her 50s or 60s. And I think she looks familiar too but I can’t place her. I am still 100% convinced it’s not Coleman though.

You check out Masters of Sex? Sometimes it kind of warbles on the brink of falling apart without plot drive, but it’s generally well written and articulated. The leads’ relationship, as the centre of the show I guess obviously, is one of the only highly focused-on and developed romantic relationships that I’ve seen represented on television that I haven’t been cheesed out by. Plus the whole show is pretty sexy.

I quite like the various supporting roles. Libby is stunning. The role could very easily be a pretty thin stereotype, but she plays it pretty complex. Alison Janney was great in S1 also.

If it is her, it wouldn’t be the first time they used an actress from Downton Abbey to great effect.

She could take the place of Kevan and get offed by Varys at the end of the season or the start of the next… Think about it, Kevan is Cersei’s level headed opponent in the Small Council and his death will likely spark a Lannister/Tyrell war. Olenna would be a good opponent in the Small Council and her death would defs spark a war between the families. What makes this even better is that Varys and Olenna seem to like each other, that last bit of dialogue between them would be great as he explains he doesn’t want to do this, but he has to because she’s doing too much good. Bonus, imagine Cersei’s reaction when Olenna tells her to name her as the first female Hand of the King.

It could work but I don’t really see a need for her in that respect. The fact Pycelle was killed off-screen in the books at almost the same time in the same way means he is prime Kevan replacement material. Plus seeing him die would be a nice pay off for the fans especially as it would be incredibly poetic that he’s killed of by children when there are hints of him being a peadophile. Although not in the same mould as Kevan he could act as Cersei’s advisor up until Maegorie’s trial where his survival instinct kicks in. Could work well with Cersi not trusting him anymore but there may be a need for another advisor with more credibility, perhaps Jaime, who she again is starting to lose trust in (perhaps after failing to return Myrcella from Dorne) so he may disappear before she is arrested as she pushes him away because she doesn’t feel he is any use anymore . By the end she’d only have Qyburn and FrankenGreg left in her corner much like the books with Pycelle dead and Jaime not wanting anything to do with her. This would realy hamme home how isolated she made herself and would reference Tyrion and how nearly everyone abandoned him when the shit hit the fan

Another suggestion – have you tried Manhattan on WGN? (Re: Manhattan project in Los Alamos)? I find it to be the best series on right now – plus it has Harry Lloyd! I like it better than Outlander but that is personal taste.

If you’re looking for great historical with GoT actors then head to Rome if you haven’t already! I quite enjoyed ‘Penny Dreadful’ but I’m a sucker for anything set in Victorian times with science clashing with the occult (classic literacy references too!). ‘Ripper Street’ does it for me too!

Will do DID say that Lena stayed with the crew after the extras left. They’ll probably cut the screen up and merge it with shots where the crowd was present. Then clean it up a bit. Honestly, you’d only need a couple of actually naked Lena shots to sell the scene, the rest can be her body double an face close ups.

It’s doable, but the part with the green screen seems odd. When they did Pyat Pree they just put some spots on the body doubles’ faces for the CGI. And then there’s the TMZ thing. It just doesn’t seem to fit together very well.

I can’t imagine the production wanting to do CGI when it really can be avoided (Whether this is because of expense or creative reasons or a combination of both I do not know). The dire wolves and dragons are used very sparingly so for something that can be done easily without CGI (nudity for example) I’d be very surprised if they CGI’ed it. Even body make up or prosthetics would be preferable IMO.

I think the green screen part is pretty clear to me, It sounds as if they plan on recording nude Lena in a studio and with the help of that green screen insert the studio footage into the scenes they shot in Dubrovnik. It is cheaper and it looks a lot more real than copy/pasting her face on the double, and the fact that they wanted people to throw things in front of the green screen makes it even more plausible that the green screen is supposed to be nude Lena (they can even CGI some of the things being thrown to hit Lena).

You don’t want a freak accident to take out an eye of one of your main actresses on the show. Delays do to the injury and any liability from the accident just isn’t worth the risk if it is easily avoided.

and any splatter effects as well. Close up reaction shots of

being hit would be done separately in a controlled environment.

This would be very similar to the riot in season 2 when Joffrey was hit with shit thrown from the crowd. The only difference here would be the length of the scene and the number of times hit.
