Love Poca, but I think Mulan's determination and love for her family makes her the best role model in my eyes.

Mulan's always been the best role model in my eyes.
Pocahontas is too, but I think almost anyone would be protective to their tribe. Thus, a great role model and inspirational character.

Whereas not many would do such things as Mulan did. She risked literally everything to save whole China and her father.

Mermaid-Tail picked Pocahontas:
Pocahontas is great, but I think Mulan's a wonderful role model. She stands for so many great qualities
Bravery
intelligence - she was extremely quick on her feet
Loyalty, putting others above yourself
Doing what's right even when it's not what's easy, and when others will be against you - Her father yelled at her and told her to learn her place the night she ran off, her own side in the army were against her, it still didn't stop her doing what she did.
Be yourself - I know it sounds funny since she spend half the movie a man, but that adds to it. She was more herself as a man than she was in make up, and at the end she saves them all as a woman, showing what she could do as herself, not pretending to be a man, not pretending to be a girlie girl.
There's also some great stuff against sexism. Like I love her saying 'You trusted Ping, why is Mulan any different?' and how at the end she saves the day as herself, after showing everyone she was amazing and her gender didn't change that.
I also love that she was the first Disney leading lady I can think of who wasn't motivated by romance.
She's also, despite her heroic qualities, very relatable, which isn't a quality Disney prioritises in female leads. Even the relatable ones are stunning and graceful. Mulan was kind of a clumsy dork. She's not so far removed from real girls, so I think seeing someone like her do such great things it's easier for girls to relate to the positive messages than coming from some stunning, willowy graceful star.

They're kind of the same but I feel like Mulan's decision was more spontaneous, she was kind of feeling like she had nothing to lose since she was failing at the matchmaker stuff.

Ya, she saved China but would Pocahontas not do something like that if it was required?

To me, the way pocahontas goes about things is more mature and she's more insightful.

Both are great role models, and each definitely deserves to be in the top two. However, I think Mulan is slightly better because she is less selfish. At first, some of the choices Pocahontas makes are based on her own dreams and desires, whereas Mulan is always placing her family first.

They are both pretty much alike: they both "betray" or go against their families, but I think Mulan was stronger because she didn't base her whole choices on her love for a man. Mulan joined the army for her father's honor, while Pocahontas fell in love and then decided to defy her father. They both were good role models, but I thought Mulan was best.

I agree with Nat and Mermaid-Tail, Mulan's just sort of the perfect role model. She's smart, loving, brave, and courageous.

"Mulan had to dress up like a man to do her good deeds"

True, but that's not her fault. She would have at least attempted to do the same good deeds dressed as a woman, but would the army have let her if they found out she was a woman early on?

And I feel as though Mulan didn't have really anything going for her at that point, where Pocahontas did, and she still risked everything.

SG1-090 picked ムーラン:
They are both very similar in that they possess the same traits, almost to the same extent, but for me Pocahontas is a better role model because she's bolder.

Even at the end of the movie when Mulan's the hero of China she comes home quiet and shy and says she hopes that her medal brings honour to the family, like she's done something wrong.

Pocahontas throws herself infront of John Smith and says what the whole tribe is doing is wrong, telling them that this isn't the way they're supposed to act!

I agree with SG1-090- Pocahontas says her beliefs loud and proud, while Mulan kind of keeps them to herself.

Mermaid-Tail picked Pocahontas:
I don't think it's really fair to hold her dressing up as a man against her. She did it because it was the absolute only way to acheive her original goal (save her father's life) not because she didn't think she as a woman was good enough. If she'd showed up to the army as a woman from te start she'd have been at best laughed at and soldiers would have been sent for her father, and no amount of feistiness or ability would have made them change the law. It also adds to the power of the finale with her showing up and being like 'I'm saving the whole country as a woman whether you like it or not'.
Also, about her having nothing to lose, I'd say your life is a pretty serious thing to lose, which is something she risked much more than Pocahontas.

I'm not trying to change people's minds or debate them, Pocahontas is great and I completely understand people wanting her to win. Since we were asked to explain our choices thought it might help to say why issues other people had with Mulan weren't an issue for me :)

Mermaid-Tail picked Pocahontas:
I know, I said Mulan risked it 'more' which I think she did. She was at risk not just from the other army, but every single day from her own side, who would have killed her for treason if they'd found out earlier who she was.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to debate anyone's opinion or anything, just explaining why I liked some of the things others didn't about her, like the dressing as a man and the 'nothing to lose' thing since we were asked to explain our choices :)

Mulan: she never cared about her feelings, while Pocahontas doubted what to do, Mulan saved lot more people then Pocahontas, she never accepted that woman should stay home and raise children, while Pocahontas was ready to marry Kocoum, and i think Mulan is the most inteligent.

Don't get me wrong Pocahontas is still very great, it was really hard to find even these reasons why Mulan is better

I did an article on this topic where I talked to a lot of parents of children who are Disney fans and Mulan came in first. Mostly because Pocahontas fell in love too quickly. They are both amazing role models but as for Mulan having to wear a disguise to do her good deeds...um, it was the law that a woman couldn't go to war? They would have executed her. And once she was revealed she continued to show bravery and inspire audiences by saving China during the climax as a woman.
