Now I can't choose based off of plot elements or anything - these movies are all so incredibly timeless! I'm not sure why I picked Sleeping Beauty, it just FEELS less timeless to me. I actually like it more than Cinderella though. I don't think Beauty and the Beast should go - after all it is the "tale as old as time."

Sleeping beauty is very 50's. The story structure, voices, stereotypes and even the characters are designed like the 50's. You can tell by an instant that it is the 50's which you can't really do in Cinderella. There are less stereotypes of the 50s in Cinderella than Sleeping Beauty.

"Now father, you're living in the past .This is the 15th century!"
I almost voted Cinderella, because I like Sleeping Beauty better, but this isn't about the better movie.

princecatcher there are no plot holes in Beauty and the Beast, what are you talking about? I have watched the movie more times than I can count over the course of 22 years. I could recite the whole thing by heart in front of a person, and know it and The little Mermaid which ALSO HAS NO plot holes better than the back of my hand. So tell me what exactly you are talking about.

This movie is most memorable for it's visual style, villain, and climax. That's it really. It's weak on story & songs and doesn't develop the main characters well enough. And compared to Cinderella & BATB, Sleeping Beauty didn't do anything for the Disney Studios as much as they did (and until the renaissance 30 years later Sleeping Beauty was the last fairy tale so that might be a factor).

I'm not saying it's terrible- I do enjoy watching it- but now that I'm older it doesn't really have much going for me.

^^ I'll explain. The timeline issues. How old was the Beast when he became a Beast. It is said in Be Our Guest that they were cursed for 10 years and Beast is about to be 21, meaning he was cursed at 11. BUT, there is a portrait of the prince where he looks the exact same in the epilogue, confusing his age.

Does the film take in months or days? If it is months like the movie is trying to tell us, then why is Maurice laying in the forest in weeks or months. If it is days, then Belle and Beast's relationship is even worse considering the situation.

Did the town know about the Beast beforehand or not. They say that they knew nothing of a Beast before Bee showed it on the mirror and Gaston told them a bunch of stuff. They make it to the Beast's castle (though they knew nothing about him) without struggle and in minutes, while Maurice could not find it again.

They are mostly time issues but they do cause holes and a bunch off unexplained things in the plot and contradict certain things and messages. I think that is what princecatcher93 meant.

I really want to write an article about the plot holes in Beauty and the Beast, because I have theories about and arguments against every single one of them. I don't really consider his non-existent parents a plot hole though, since a lot of Disney characters have non-existent parents.

Boys features don't change very much-- it could be exaggerated but its a very minor plot hole- hardly enough to call it one. The time is in years in the prologue. From the "Be Our Guest" song- "10 years we've been rusting." So yes he was 11 and 21 when he met Belle.

The film takes place in months, Maurice left to go find Belle and could have been in the Forest for Days. You lost me, with Belle and Beasts relationship being in worse situation. After the Dance, you can tell she loves the Beast and he loves Belle, but she goes to help him home. The Beast has finally learned to love. She loves him but has not admitted it yet.

Gaston is a known hunter, he knows the land ( the woods) - I think you are looking a little too far into this. He could probably see the castle and recognize the woodland area. Who knows. It was not explored, so it was not a plot hole, there was no background story. Plus that is what lynch mobs do they go out searching where ever- all mad finding whoever they are after. Hence the " MOB SONG".

The things you mentioned are not essential to the story or important. If its a PLOT HOLE, that means it really gets in the way or if a character says something and then another character says something along the lines and it contradicts what the other said. That is a plot hole.

Non existent parents are not plot holes either. There are alot of those in Disney films.

What the hell has the plot of those movies has to do with anything? The question is how timeless they are. And with Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella, their age is barely noticeable. The animation still looks flawless after all this year (only the prince in Cinderella looks a little bit stiff), there are no details which set them in a certain age.
BatB is very timeless too, but the animation didn't age quite that good. It's still impressive, but it betrays its age a little bit. (And I hope that the double posts contra Sleeping Beauty from the same users are not counted when it comes which one has more votes)

@ Swanpride, I was just explaining to her what princecatcher93 meant. It meant nothing to me since I never voted for BatB. And only one vote per person counts.

@persephone, no. Maurice left to find her the day she left and she went to go get him when she left. Either way, plotholes have nothing to do with it, and I actually don't understand princecatcher's reason.

I never think that Sleeping Beauty is timeless. Aurora seldom appears in the movie, too much fairies scene is boring....

To add another reason why Sleeping Beauty is more timeless: The music. By using only the classic music of the Ballet, it's nearly impossible to recognize the actual era the movie was made. The music of the other two movies are definitely products of the era's they were made in, if nothing else the 90th pop ballade on the end of the movie discloses the true age of BatB.
