POTM: What are your お気に入り things about Mulan?

I 愛 her bravery, perseverance and how she's willing to disguise as a man and go off to war to save her father.

I 愛 Mulan's 愛 for her family. She loved her family so much that she would risk her own life to save her father. She is very メリダとおそろしの森 and admirable.

I 愛 the scene where ムーラン cuts her hair. It's so symbolic of cutting her old life away, and gives me chills every time.

I like her smarts. I also like her motivation, that she does what she does because she wants to protect someone else. I like how she fails to act like a stereotypical woman and then fails to act like a stereotypical men and then ended up succeeding によって trusting her own strengths. I like that she isn't particularly talented to be a soldier, but gets there through hard training. I like that she is kind of lazy, but also diligent when it comes to the truly important things. I like her facial expressions (so funny!!!), and I like the "reflection" theme attached to her.

I still admire characters who defy the expectations of others, and ムーラン falls into this list, along with Ariel. I like that ムーラン is a klutz, and she isn't naturally talented at anything physical. When it comes to the physical, she has to work on it, and practice it. She doesn't care about practicing for the matchmakers, but as a soldier, あなた can see her diligence. Mulan's cleverness sets her apart from all the girls in line to be married, and even gives her an advantage over her male peers, including Shang. ムーラン doesn't think the conventional way. She, at the end of it all, isn't trying to gain admiration from others. Mulan, like Ariel her predecessor, was on a mission of self-actualization. Yes, ムーラン sacrificed for her father and her country. But the most important piece was that she wanted to look in the mirror and "see someone worthwhile." And ムーラン got out there and achieved that for herself.

I 愛 how relatable ムーラン is. I strongly relate to her constant concern for her elders' health and her fear to lose them. I simply adore the scene from the beginning when she reminds her father of doctor's recommendations because sometimes I do this too. Throughout entire movie I felt for her a lot because of this relatability so I supported her decisions and I felt a strong desire to defend her.

Sadly, another I thing I relate to ムーラン is that my work ethic and my ambition sometimes don't match just like hers. But Mulan's complexity is also a reason to 愛 her.

Aside from relatability, I really 愛 that, despite being a female warrior from late 90s, ムーラン doesn't have a cocky, brash and sassy personality that both female warriors and heroines from late 90s tend to have. I 愛 that in the aspect of niceness she is もっと見る like Belle than like ジャスミン または Meg.

Also, while it's not as important as abovementioned to me, I 愛 her beautiful and underrated design.
