Your opinion on the ideals of American Enlightenment, specifically the "Watchmaker" analogy?

Currently in U.S. history, we're going over Enlightenments in the American colonies. I've been 与えられた packets and lists of the characteristic ideas of Enlightenment thinkers. Not sure if the 一覧 is online, but I'll gladly send a link if I find it.
I knew of deism but the Enlightenment itself was new to me. Frankly, I find it interesting. Your thoughts?
