Zoe Saldana will produce a feature documentary titled
. This film is currently in production and will explore the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls of Canada.
Saldana will produce through Cinestar Pictures, a production company that she runs with her sisters Cisely and Mariel, alongside producer/director Leslie Owens who will produce through her production company, Owen Media Group.
According to Owens, there are over 4,000 documented cases of women and girls who have disappeared or have been murdered across Canada during the past three decades. The docu will ask why this happens and what is being done to investigate and prevent the crimes. It will follow three key stories and feature voices of family members of the missing and murdered along with politicians and community leaders.
Saldana has been in major blockbuster films such as
Star Trek Into Darkness, Guardians of the Galaxy
, about around the life of the legendary singer, artist, and activist Nina Simone. She is set to star in the feature adaptation of Joe Kelly’s graphic novel titled,
alongside up-and-coming actress, Madison Wolfe, and can be seen in theaters on July 22
