How do I like または reply to a コメント now?

With every video on the new YouTube, most of the コメント have no buttons to like them または reply to them. There are a lot that I really want to like または reply to but there seems to be no way now.

That does seem like the only way. I don't think it actually alerts them though.

Same here with me, I will admit, I do not like the decision of the Google+ connection to YouTube in order to コメント on 動画 because あなた can't reply to legacy コメント and あなた also can't up vote または down vote any of them either and that sucks, I have this problem too! XP
The only thing I like about this decision is that I can type as many character letters than before. :)
