"Sage! Sage, please wake up!" Paige and I pleaded. She was still unconscious, but her ハート, 心 was beating. She was still alive.
"What happened to her?" Mom asked, her voice slightly worried.
"She passed out," I said, irritated.
"I need to get her into town," Paige 発言しました quickly. "I need to run." She picked up Sage, and took a deep breath. The town wasn't that far away, but this was urgent. She started running, which wasn't that fast since she was so tired. But she still got pretty far ahead of us. My ハート, 心 was racing. Sage couldn't die. Not this young. Not like this. That just wasn't fair.
"Is she going to be alright?" Mom asked.
"She'd better," I breathed. I'd never forgive Mom if Sage died. I'd probably kill her in return.
We caught up to them about twenty 分 later. Paige had Sage laid down in the shade.
"We need to find water," she 発言しました urgently.
"Where are we going to find water?" Mom asked.
"We beg," I told her. She raised an eyebrow at me, and Kirsten went over to the street, where people were walking.
"Please," Kirsten said. "Do あなた have water? My baby sister's sick." The man pursed his lips, and walked on like he hadn't heard her.
A couple 分 later, someone finally gave Kirsten a plastic water bottle.
"I got it!" she said, running back to the shaded area. I took it from her, and dribbled some of the water onto Sage's face. A while later, she coughed, and opened her eyes.
"Oh thank God," Mom sighed. Sage slowly sat up, looking half dead. I gave her the water bottle, and she drank almost half of it. The rest Paige, Kirsten, Mom and I split. "Well, let's keep moving," Mom said. She picked Sage up, and held her close to her. I was surprised, but I tried not to 表示する it.

"We're almost there, girls," Mom said. She walked with Sage in one arm, and her other arm around Kirsten's shoulders. It was getting dark; we'd taken a lot of breaks to avoid another situation like this morning. We were all dead tired. I was sick of walking. I was sick of carrying almost all our belongings. All I wanted was to be home, asleep.
About a half 時 later, we came to the town, that Mom's cousin Blair supposedly lived in. It was a nice town; very fancy compared to our crappy neighborhood. We looked around, and found a place that had a map of the town.
"Ok, go here, here, then here..." Mom muttered to herself.
We got to Blair's house, and actually just stood there for a while. I felt so out of place, just standing there. This place was much better than what I was used to. I felt like I didn't deserve to be here.
"Come on, girls," Mom said. Still holding Sage, she took Kirsten's hand and walked up the sidewalk. I wish for just a moment that I could hold Mom's hand. I was scared. Mom knocked on the door. A while later, a light inside flicked on, and we heard the deadbolt unlocking.
"Hello?" a tired man answered the door.
"Um, is Blair here?" Mom asked sheepishly. The man studied us for a while, a frown on his face.
"She's sleeping. Who're you?"
"Who's there, James?" a small voice asked from further into the house.
"I'm Hannah," Mom said. "Blair's cousin."
"Hannah?" the woman said. She came to the door, in a ローブ and sweatpants. "Oh my... Is that you?" Mom nodded. "Well, come in!" We stepped inside the house; it was even bigger on the inside... "What're あなた doing here? How have あなた been?" Blair asked.
"I've been better," Mom smiled sadly. I scoffed. We have?
"Oh my... Are these your girls?" Mom nodded.
"This is Paige, Shelby, Kirsten, Sage, and Auburn," Mom introduced us. "You remember Paige and Shelby, don't you?"
"Of course! Oh my gosh. Paige! I haven't seen あなた since あなた were two! And Shelby! I haven't seen あなた since あなた were just a baby!" Blair said. I nodded slowly. I don't remember ever seeing this woman. I didn't know about her until a couple days ago. "You girls have gotten so grown up!" she said. "Shelby, I have a daughter, Jori who's about your age! She's a couple months younger than you..."
As if right on cue, a girl who I assumed was Jori came down the stairs.
"Mom, who is it?" she asked sleepily. She had medium length, dark brown hair that was very matted right now.
"Honey, these are your cousins. Come meet them!" Blair 発言しました excitedly. Jori grumbled, and trudged down the stairs. Already, there was something I didn't like about her. Maybe I was just tired and irritable. "This is my cousin, Hannah. And these are her daughters Paige, Shelby, Kirsten, Sage, and Auburn. Shelby is your age, Jori!" Jori nodded slowly, but I could tell によって her expression that 発言しました she really did not care. "So, how are things with you, Hannah?"
"Um, well..." Mom said, a little embarrassed. We were just 表示中 up to a long ロスト relative's house real late, inviting ourselves to stay there with no notice what so ever. No big deal. "We kinda need a place to stay. We got evicted..."
"Oh no!" Blair said. "Of course あなた can stay, right James?" James shrugged.
"We got the room," he said.
"Perfect," Blair smiled sweetly. Ok, um, since it's late, would あなた mind just sleeping on the pull out couch? James, can あなた get Jori's old ベビーベッド from the basement?"
***
The five of us slept on the pull out couch. It was crowded, but I didn't mind. I was just happy to be sleeping in an actual ベッド tonight. I hoped that in the morning they'd let us shower. I was filthy and disgusting. Sage cuddled up 次 to Mom, and Mom put her arm around her. My ハート, 心 ached, from both jealousy and happiness. I was glad Mom was at least trying to be there for us now. But I wished it was towards me as well. I shook the thoughts out of my head and went to sleep, which didn't take long.
The 次 morning, I woke up and got something out of one of our "suitcases." Rubbing alcohol. Paige had 発言しました I should clean it once a day, which I hadn't done in two days. I got a paper towel from the kitchen, soaked it with alcohol, and put it on the stitches. I hissed at the burning, but it was nowhere near as bad as it was when I first did it. Mom appeared, looking very worried.
"Are あなた alright?" she asked quietly. I nodded, but gritted my teeth together. "Let me see." I turned around and showed her the back of my leg. "Oh my God..." she whispered. She looked at me with sad eyes. "Shelby, I'm so sorry this happened to you. That must have been so terrifying..." I nodded sheepishly, remembering how scared I was that night. Then Mom hugged me. I almost recoiled, but I kept myself still. After a few moments, I actually returned the hug. "I 愛 you, Shelby. あなた know that, don't you? I know it doesn't seem like that all the time..." I rested my head on her chest, and closed my eyes.
"I know, Mom. I 愛 あなた too."
This is what having a mother is supposed to be like.

crashed and faded
によって the fate
that follows
the land
on which
you're standing.
Dreams
are dead...
Fighting for
better days
now seems so
vainly,
everything went
wrong.
Dreams are
broken
in so many nights
that echo
along with
dust of past.
Put yourself
together
and hold on
to something
good,
あなた might survive,
あなた might escape
from the fate
that follows
the land
on which
you're standing.
Days are black
and cold,
nights spent
in despair
and thinking.
Your fate is
bounded to
the land
on which
you're standing.
What we have we won’t give
Up to any without a fight
Our ancestors gave us this birth right
We just want to live in peace
But still the battles will not cease
Until we’re driven from our home
Then we would be left to roam
And settle in some other place
または wiped out with no trace
Our names they wouldn’t know
So we prepare to meet our foe
The tribal headdress worn with pride
And paint upon our skin to hide
Who they face upon the field
Armed with arrows, spear & shield
Seen as men within a crowd
Surging forth we holler aloud
No fear from us will be shown
As they meet the unknown
Warriors not afraid to die
Fighting for our cause we try
To save our land & family
So our tribe can be free
To live as we choose to do
So let battle now ensue
