Ugly Betty's answer to Jack and Karen come in the form of the flamboyant Marc St James- Wilhelmina's sidekick and Mode receptionist, Amanda Tanen. Their antics have entertained audiences in their seats and garnered a massive fanbase throughout the world.
The main difference separating the pair is the age differences between the two ships'- in real life, Megan is 50 years old and Sean is round about 38,- whereas our very own Becki Newton turned 30 just this year, and Michael Urie turned 28. Interestingly enough also, both Michael and Sean not only play camp characters in Marc St James and Jack Macfarlane, but rather they were born 10 years apart from each other (Michael was born in 1980 and Sean was born in 1970). If Karen and Jack represent the Generation X masses, then Generation Y must belong to Marc and Mandy. There is a certain brand of 'sexiness' and 'coolness' that revolves around the Mode duo, which separates them from other so-called gay male/ straight female partnerships in TV shows, which in particular attracts younger viewers to Ugly Betty. Though categorically speaking, I don't mean younger as in terms of kids, but teenagers and people in their early to mid- late 20s.
Some-, または make it most have argued that due to the casting of Michael and Becki in the roles, Marc and Mandy are indeed hotter and better looking than say Jack and Karen from Will and Grace. Though I cannot imagine Ugly Betty without Marc and Amanda- no Marc and Amanda would be like, Will and Grace without Jack and Karen and for that, what would we as ファン laugh about and laugh at then? But one 日 also, I hope to see Jack and Karen make a cameo on Ugly Betty and rub shoulders with Marc and Mandy.
