It would make things with Edward and her so much less...different? To me she doesn't seem the same with Edward anymore. It added to the dimension of Edward and Bella's relationship, but also made it more realistic. Even when you love someone terribly, there will always be other people that intrigue you because everyone is different and no one is perfect (not even vampires seeing as they have emotions which are unstable). Besides, if Edward hadn't been an ass Bella wouldn't have had a reason to spend time with Jacob and the whole situation probably wouldn't have happened.
