Being off human blood for so long made Stefan go off the deep end.
As we have seen Damon has been on it the whole time it is one thing that he can control.

Stefan was such a horrible vampire back then. He never found a way to become better. He just quit it. Which would make him the same evil person if he went back on it later. Damon never wanted to be a vampire and he never wanted to kill anyone. And he didn't for a very longtime. Stefan stopped because Lexi made him. He didn't really want to. Damon only started killing because of Stefan. but i think they should both try to be better.
