should i read the books?

well, i only know about the vampire diaries because of the tv 表示する and i've heard the 本 have pretty much nothing to do with the tv show, so my 質問 is, what's your ファン advice, 'cuz i;m also a ファン of HP and i'm really desappointed in almost every movie (specially david yate's) and i don't want to get desappointed in TVD too
