Vampire Diaries Season 6 Episode 17: Spoilers For "A Bird In A Gilded Cage" 

Brace yourselves, fang fans, because things are about to get extra bumpy on

Season 6 Episode 17! Not only will Caroline Forbes

continue to reel out of control as she a humanity-free bloodsucker, but Damon and Bonnie are also returning to the prison world to come to his not-quite-deceased mother’s aid. As you can tell, a lot of craziness is about to go down in Mystic Falls!

Oh, and get this: Apparently Elena and Kai are tagging along on this special rescue mission! You’d think that the last thing Bonnie would want is to be in close proximity to the sociopath who a. murdered his family, b. an arrow at her, c. abducted her and stuffed her in a car trunk for hours, and d. stabbed her after making her sit through the world’s most excruciatingly uncomfortable Thanksgiving meal — but let bygones be bygones, right? (Sigh.) That being said, she and Damon are probably just using Kai for his magic because getting stuck in a 1903 hellhole is a worst case scenario; at least 1994 had a fully stocked grocery store and Salt & Peppa jams.

As for Elena? She gets to meet the woman who gave birth to the beautiful Salvatore brothers. Understandably, this is one opportunity she doesn’t want to miss, and we can’t blame her for wanting to get off on the right foot with mommy dearest.

With the help of Bonnie (Kat Graham)and Kai (guest star Chris Wood), Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) set forth a plan to rescue Damon’s mother Lily (guest star Annie Wersching), who is trapped in the 1903 prison world. Meanwhile, when Caroline’s (Candice Accola) plan for Stefan (Paul Wesley) backfires, she is left to pick up the pieces. Elsewhere, back at Whitmore College, Enzo (Michael Malarkey) and Alaric (Matt Davis) attempt to reel Caroline back in doesn’t quite go as planned when they realize they’re outmaneuvered. Lastly, an unexpected gift from Bonnie leaves Damon shaken to his core. Joshua Butler directed the episode written by Neil Reynolds (#617).
