i think this is a really good question. In the book, information about star's past is limited however there is a short conversation between her micheal " 'you and david...you seem very intune with each other. That is, あなた seem very close-' 星, つ星 squeezed his hand 'I was just sleeping on the ビーチ when david found me and brought me here' " also when asked about her family 星, つ星 replys "i miss them sometimes, really bad". So maybe she ran away from ホーム and got caught up with the ロスト boys. may not be true its just a theory :)

The clues are in the movie,what do あなた see allot of the background to lostboys??....RUNAWAY/MISSING POSTERS...Yeah some of those posters are for the victims of the LBs but most of the group are runnaways!..Try to find the graphic novels,they will fill in allot もっと見る of the blanks that the book will!!!...Hope that help's some! :)
