What is a Darf?

In Prince Caspian, Chapter 7 when Wimbleweather the giant first appears, he has on his back a "basketful of rather sea-sick Darfs who had accepted his offer of a lift [...]". I have never heard of a Darf, and can't find any reference to them anywhere. Can あなた tell me a bit もっと見る about them?
