Somehow the Buddy Holly version just doesn't sound quite right, the way he harmonizes with himself instead of a bandmate like the Beatles can. The Beatles have this uncanny ability to make a cover song sound exactly like the original and still be so good that the original seems inferior in comparison. I don't think anyone else can do that.
