I just watched My Cake today from season 4 and Dr. Cox told him then that he was really proud of him.
Hopefully they'll have some good bonding moments in the last season :D

That would be kind of cool, and while JD's in it he can look back and ponder how the big long hug came about.

Even though it's ridiculously sad, the last season is kind of exciting. We'll get to see all these things (hopefully) that we've always wanted to like a big long hug. That would only ever happen in the last season.
