Rose McGowan Talks About Growing Up with Drag Queens
In a new interview with The Advocate, Rose McGowan revealed that she grew up around drag queens and even went out to gay クラブ as a middle schooler. The goth-chic actress, who dated Marilyn Manson for three years, says her unconventional childhood helped her become accepting.
When McGowan moved from her birthplace in Italy to the U.S., she was teased at her school in Portland, Oregon. As a young teen, she found comfort after being taken in "by the most amazing drag queens" who would dress her up as characters like Charlie Chaplin and take her out on the town. "There was so much camaraderie and love," she told the LGBT-interest magazine.
Although McGowan says she's straight and has never kissed a girl, she always felt embraced at gay clubs. "Whether it was how I danced または the way I looked, I was always quite celebrated in the gay clubs. To this day, I only go to gay clubs. I’m perfectly at ホーム there," she said.
A young McGowan was even "gay-bashed" once as she was leaving a nightclub, and 発言しました "It’s that kind of s**t that’s made me a fighter for equal rights and for anybody’s humanity."
