BJsRealm Even here in UK,namely,in Scotland, 2 people can already get married at age 16+no parental consent is necessary.In many countries people can get their driver's licence or the identity card at 16.So,why not let them VOTE as ADULTS 2 & get a job as well?

BJsRealm This may surprise you or even shock you yet such proposals have indeed been made recently.A couple of decades ago people in the West were MINORS until the age of 21.Besides,being an ADULT at 16 means more drivers,voters,employees,married couples&parents.

BJsRealm Speaking from my personal experience,I was practically an adult at age 16 myself!Got my 1st BF at 16.People today are much more mature at the age of 16,both physically&emotionally,so why not consider them as ADULTS even legally?I see no reason why not!

legend_of_roxas Mmm, I don't really agree with all of this. In the United States, you're legally considered an adult when you're 18 and I think that's perfect. I believe 16 is just too young. 16 is a fine age to be able to get a job and get a license, which 16-year-olds already do get in the US, but I don't think it's a good age for things like voting and getting married. In my experience, most 16-year-olds have never been mature enough for things like that. I'm not saying everyone at 16 isn't mature, but at that age, people are still going through puberty, aren't fully mentally and physically developed, are still in school, don't know what the outside world is really like and usually don't have any life plans for the future. They're just going through a lot at that time in their lives. In the case of voting, it seems that teenagers don't really care. In the US most 18-year-olds don't even vote, let alone know what it is they want to vote on. I don't believe 16-year-olds will take the time and research on policies or candidates well enough for them to really know what they're voting for. They might just read a quick summary of someone else's opinion on something and then be convinced that that's what they want to vote for, too. Which could be pretty catastrophic. In the case of marriage, let's just say teenagers don't make the best of choices. Many times have I seen, even at my old high school, teenagers getting in relationships and thinking that they're going to be with that one person forever. I don't think having that kind of thought process and adding the choice of marriage on top of it is a good idea. There's a good chance a 16-year-old would get into a relationship with another person and they would marry right away. Soon after the marriage, they will realize that they are simply not right for each other, or one of them is abusive, etc. I don't believe someone that young should be able to make such a huge choice that could affect their life forever. At the age of 18 people are a little more mature and make better decisions, are out of high school, and usually have their life planned out. They will most likely be in college studying for the career that they want when they get out of college. Depending on the career they may have to plan around it and see if they actually want to get married and have kids. I just think it's a much better time to think about what they want in life since 18-year-olds will have more time for it and more experience with the world.

BJsRealm @legend_of_roxas I think you miss my point.That's just a proposal.The scientific&medical community is still divided on the subject yet the teenagers ARE legally allowed to marry@age 16 in Scotland&in some countries they can even get a driver's licence!OK?

BJsRealm @legend_of_roxas There are plenty of Muslim countries where teenagers DO marry each other already.This is NOT a fantasy but reality! In Islamic world, when someone reaches puberty@age 13 he/she becomes mature enough to start a family.Odd but true!=>Google

Zeppie According to a google search lmao, apparently the age of majority in New Zealand is 20. I'd agree with that tbh. 18-20. Although we can get our drivers licence at 16, age of consent is 16 and alcohol purchase age is 21. The way I view it, despite other countries legalities, I view anyone who is a teenager and younger as a minor. There can be some teenagers who are quite independent and can hold their own but there's no way in hell I'd consider a 16 year old an adult :L

BJsRealm Well,I suppose it all depends on the national legislation yet it is obviously a controversial subject.If the UN or the WHO to be exact would like to reset the age of majority on global scale they will do so with or without our consent,sooner or later.
