Let's pretend あなた saw a t-shirt worth 97 cents at a store. Since あなた don't have any cash along with you, あなた borrowed 50 cents from your mom and 50 cents from your dad as well. So now あなた have $1. あなた bought the シャツ and received a change of 3 cents. あなた returned 1c to your mom, 1c to your dad and あなた kept the remaining 1c.

So now あなた owe them 49c each.Here's the question:

49c + 49c = 98c is the total of how much あなた owe them, plus the 1 cent that あなた kept = 99c.

It was supposed to be $1. Where's the missing penny?
