Mason is a nice boy\'s name. Popularity has increased greatly on it. He may get called Mason Jar though.
My son is named Mason and I find it very masculine and handsome. I detest the new trend of giving this name to girls. It\'s just so very masculine.
I have to agree, this is not a good name for a girl. It is very masculine.
I agree that this name being used for girls is completely wrong. It\'s a very masculine BOYS name, and there is no justification for it being used femininely. I have seen such butcherings as Maysun, Maesyn, Maicen, Mayssyn, Maisynn, Maesynne, etc, on girls.
I just wish that the "Boys-Names-On-Girls" trend would come to an end. Names like Mackenzie, Emerson, Madison, Addison, and, yes, Mason (and it\'s variants) shouldn\'t be used on girls whatsoever.
I do like this name for a boy, but I like it much better as a last name.
Nice boys name but not very nice girls name in my opinion. I don\'t get why people are using classic traditional boys names. It may be a new society and people want to be more unique compared to earlier generations but these names should stay masculine.
American actress Melissa Joan Hart & musician Mark Wilkerson are the parents of a boy, Mason Wilkerson, born on 11th January 2006.
Nice, strong boys name, but I prefer it as a middle name. When I hear the name Mason, I automatically think of this restaurant in Colorado Springs called "The Mason Jar".
Mason O´Neill is a character from the TV show "It´s All Relative". He was played by Lenny Clarke.
This is an occupation and a surname, you ninnies! Give your son a real name!
I had absolutely no idea that this was getting popular. I think it\'s ugly for either a boy or a girl.
An absolutley vile name to curse a child with.
This is a boy\'s name! It\'s too strong for a girl. I love the name and want to name my son this.
Edward Cullens, from the book Twilight, real last name is Mason.
Mason Capwell, played by Lane Davies, was a very popular character on the now-defunct (1984-93) soap opera Santa Barbara. I wouldn\'t doubt this is the time period during which the name began its increase in popularity.
I think Mason is an awful name for a boy. Nobody\'s son deserves to have Mason as a name, be it first, middle, or last. On the other hand, I love Mason as a girls name. I don\'t understand why girls can\'t have a strong name.
I like the name and I think that it would be weird to be a girl and be a Mason. That\'s weird I\'m telling you!
Love this name, definitely would use it on a kid - but a boy, though. It\'s a boys\' name. If someone chooses to use it on a girl, obviously that\'s their choice, but I don\'t think it would work. And it\'s opening the poor kid up to a lot of teasing for having a male name. Would stick with this spelling, though. This trend of messing up the spelling of names needs to die out.
A famous (sort-of) bearer is the fraternal society the Freemasons.
Although it\'s on its way to become the new Jason, I love this name.
I like Mason for a boy and a girl, as well, I actually know two young girls with this name and they themselves are very feminine and popular.
Mason Lockwood is a character in the TV show and books "Vampire Diaries".
(Before I\'d seen Vampire Diaries I really disliked this name because I could only see an old grumpy grampa or a redneck with this name, but now I see a really hot man instead! I like this name now!)
It reminds me too much of the fact that members of the Freemasons are called Masons. As a result, it gives me the creeps.
I can only think of Call of Duty: Black Ops when I hear this, So it sounds so silly to me, like naming a kid Reznov. XD
To be honest I never liked this name at first, but when I became pregnant with my youngest child I fell in love with it and I\'ve never met another boy named Mason in England.
I think this name was overused about 10 years ago. I used to like it, but I just don\'t like it anymore.
I don\'t think it\'s THAT bad. In fact, I kind of like it. It\'s friendly.
Mason Walker Crosby (born 1984 in Lubbock, Texas) is an American NFL football player for the Green Bay Packers.
Mason Jennings (born 1975 in Honolulu, Hawaii) is an American singer-songwriter.
I heavily dislike the name. Mason is an ear worm to me, and I find it incredibly infantile. Even worse are the variants. Masen, Mayson, Maysinn.
We named our son Seth Mason. It\'s a handsome strong name for a handsome strong man. And no, in the 23 years he\'s had this name, no-one\'s ever mentioned Mason jars. Anyway, most people I know who use Mason jars don\'t find them silly or funny at all. Like their namesake, they are simple, strong and useful.
"Like their namesake, they are simple, strong and useful..."
Mace was a popularly used nickname for Mason after the birth of Mason Disick, son of Kourtney Kardashian, who is more commonly known as "Mace."
I don\'t get how everyone fell in love with this all of a sudden. Is Kourtney Kardashian\'s kid really that important? I\'ve even heard of at least one where I live! Plus it makes me think of Freemasons. Well, at least it isn\'t one of those recently created names like Nevaeh or Jaden.
Eh. I guess it\'s better than some made up kre8yve name, but it still screams "TEEN MOM" to me. And the fact that it\'s #2 now because some Kardashian named their kid Mason... Ugh. Whatever happened to naming your kids after family members?
I don\'t get why this is so popular with all of those negative associations. Free Masons, the trashy Kardashians. I\'m not anti unisex names but this one is even more awful on a girl.
The name Mason was given to 80 baby GIRLS born in the US in 2012...
Pushing the negative associations aside (and, believe me, the list is nearly endless... it\'s trendiness is only the surface of the quandary), I think that Mason has an amiable, warm sound to it. It is handsome and durable, but simultaneously young, peripheral, and childlike (which, in my opinion, is unfavorable, and should be considered by parents looking at the name).
I heard some co-workers talk about naming their kid Mason, but the wanted to change the spelling--add an I--to quote "make him stand out". I pointed out that it would make it \'maison\', the French word for house. That had very little impact since they weren\'t really talking to me anyway, but I didn\'t know whether or not to strangle them or turn them into the Common Sense Police or what.
So essentially they\'re setting up a child and everyone who runs into him for some awkward explaining and, should they run into me, lowered expectations. When I see spellings that are twisted unreasonably far from the expected spelling or worse, spellings that pervert the actual pronunciation, I assume the person is as dumb as the person that named them. I know it\'s unfair, and I\'m easily proven wrong, but considering how easy it is to spell Mason the right way with 5 letters, I have to assume that Maison--6 letters-- got his name because his mom was too dumb to know any better.
Why oh why is this tacky, trendy sounding name so popular!? D: Smgdh... It makes me (obviously) think of the dreadful associations of Freemasons & Freemasonry. I despise and loathe the horrific, ugly name Mason.
You know what, I\'ve changed my mind about the name Mason. I\'ve gotten over what I originally slated it for. It\'s unfair to take my frustration of Freemasonry out on this name. Most people have innocent intentions when picking this name for their child. Plus the meaning of Mason isn\'t actually bad or anything. So, my sincere apologies to all Masons & to those who love the name about my previous comment! Forget what I said. I think Mason sounds pretty cute, adorable and handsome and I get its appeal. ｡◕‿◕｡.
That might be common, but I don\'t see it anywhere in this article or comments.
My little girls\' middle name is Masen. I don\'t know what peoples\' issue is with it being used for a girl. It\'s really not that masculine a name.
I think Mason is an okay name, but it\'s too popular right now for my tastes. Jason is a less popular choice, and I think it ages better, too.
