School Formal Dance Problems!!!!

My school has an 8th grade formal dance and I asked my best friend to go with me. The thing is I don't know if we're going as dates または as friends. How can I find out? And also I really like him and want to slow dance with him because most likely there will be a slow dance. How can I ask him to slow dance even if I don't know how? And also he's around a foot taller than me so how would I dance with him?
