Chapter 2: Replacement
There he was, sitting alone on his ソファー, ソファ with a now empty glass of バーボン, ブルボン on a very cold Tuesday night. He didn’t feel how cold it was, he just felt a whole flood of emotions coming over him. He had tried to numb them with to many vicodin, must have been about eight, and almost a whole bottle of bourbon.
On the 表, テーブル stood some boxes, Chinese takeout, none of them were opened. He had been hungry when he came ホーム but when the takeout finally arrived an 時 after he ordered it, he didn’t really feel like eating anymore. He had felt like he was being eaten from the inside… または so, he didn’t really knew how to describe it, but there had been way to many feelings and they had been to intense.
He didn’t do feelings, at least not anymore, feelings weren’t rational, the only thing they would do was mislead and betray, disappoint and hurt you. He learned this lesson very early in his life, nothing good had ever come from feelings so he did the rational thing, he locked them out. If あなた didn’t 愛 anyone no one wouldn’t be able to hurt あなた and if あなた didn’t expect anything nothing would ever disappoint you.
But tonight the world had crashed, HIS world had crashed, he had realized that he had feelings, that he had had them for years. He felt betrayed によって himself, those stupid feelings just sneaked up on him and wrapped themselves strong around his ハート, 心 like tentacles from an octopus. He hadn’t noticed them sneaking up on him, because he locked them out for so long he hadn’t recognized the signs. All those feelings had been waiting there like a time bomb, and now the bomb exploded…
The trigger for the explosion was the outcome of what happened a few weeks ago, when he found out Wilson was dating Amber. It all didn’t seem so bad in the beginning, Wilson was always dating, my god, he had even been dating during all of his marriages. Amber was a surprising dating choice, but he had thought that she must have been needy in some way so Wilson could play the role he played best; an always アドバイス giving stuffed animal with a sexaddiction. Of course Wilson would always say he ‘just wanted to help’ all those needy women and that he had never intended to sleep with them and after a while he would say that he really loved his new girlfriend and crap like that. Wilson meant all the things he 発言しました but the neediness would decrease and he would find another needier woman. Wilson’s relationships never lasted long, but this time something was different…
He had noticed something was different when he had followed Wilson and Amber into a restaurant last week. Wilson 発言しました something about the time they had been waiting to get a 表, テーブル and Amber immediately changed into war-modus and went to get them a table…
‘She tends to treat every event like it’s the last copter out of Saigon.’
‘She’s the anti-Wilson. She’s a force for evil.’
‘She has an annoying quality. Perhaps even two. If I was perfect, I would 日付 perfect.’
Amber had gotten them a 表, テーブル and a grin plastered itself on Wilson’s mouth. He saw it happening, he immediately saw an anomaly, but couldn’t quite define it yet.
‘You like that!’
‘It’s annoying, but she’s good at it.’
‘Wait a second. This isn't just about sex. あなた like her personality. あなた like that she's conniving. あなた like that she has no regard for consequences. あなた like that she can humiliate someone if it serves... Oh my god, you're sleeping with me!’
So that was the anomaly! Wilson liked Amber, but not because she was needy, she wasn’t needy, there weren’t any signs of neediness, but because she was a girly version of him!
After that realization he had left the restaurant as fast as his bum leg would let him.
He now realized that in that moment it wasn’t his rational self talking nor thinking, it was a mixture of rational and something else, something … emotional. The 次 morning he even drove to the hotel were Wilson had been staying, he didn’t really knew why he had done that, had he been … worried? Lucky for him his rational self took over again and came up with another explanation for Wilsons attraction to Amber.
When he saw Wilson coming out of the elevator he felt really confident, he knew he was right, he had to be right, it was just so Wilson…
‘I was wrong.’
‘House, you’re right.’
‘She’s not me. Well, she is me, but that’s not why she’s attractive. She’s a needy version of me.’
‘Hard to imagine such a mythical creature.’
‘You started seeing her right after I fired her!’
‘I started seeing her four months ago.’
‘She told Kutner is was four weeks.’
‘You lied to me. There was money on the line.’
‘Because I knew how you’d react, and I knew あなた wouldn’t pay me anyway.’
‘You knew that I was right.’
‘She wasn’t needy. She was in a… bad situation. There’s a difference.’
‘Not to your libido.’
‘Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Why are あなた doing this? Every time I agree with you, あなた find a new argument. What are あなた trying to avoid?’
The confidence he had when he saw Wilson coming out of the elevator was now mixed with the emotion he had felt earlier that morning. It was really confusing and because of Wilsons reaction he now thought he must have looked a little lost. There also must have been something childish in his eyes that something that asked for, that needed, confirmation.
‘Well, if you’d looked at me with those flashing eyes before I was involved… C’est la vie. And… I use the French because… you’re an ass.’
In that moment another wave of emotion flooded over him. Thinking about it, it must have been relief. The way Wilson had 発言しました the last sentence reassured him, it was still bro’s before ho’s.
This and the fact that Amber stepped によって to tell him that she felt something she hadn’t felt before, loved (that’s a need! Ha!), lead him to tell Wilson later that 日 that he could do worse. Wilson was kind of overwhelmed with the idea that he could have a long term relationship with a woman. Wilson had been stunned and asked him if he was sacrificing himself. But there was no such thing. Wilson had thrown himself in yet another relationship built on neediness, it was 安全, 安全です to say that it wouldn’t last.
That night he called Wilson to tell him he wanted to be picked up at seven to go to the bowling alley. Wilson told him he already promised Amber to spend the night with her and that they could go bowling another night. His rational self told him this was well … rational, but his emotional self was bugging him again and felt slightly disappointed.
A week after that he found himself bowling with Chase. Wilson was spending most of his nights with Amber, but he kept telling himself that this was just a temporary thing. Chase mentioned an annoying girlfriend from Cameron and how she was now only allowed to come over on Thursdays so Chase didn’t have to put up with her every single day. This got him thinking, maybe he could set some arrangement with Amber, something like joined custody over Wilson.
The idea of joined custody, although at first she found it ridiculous to treat Wilson like a child without an opinion of his own, got accepted によって Amber. But of course it didn’t come to an agreement, he wanted every other 日 and every other weekend, but she would only give him every other weekend and Wednesdays till eleven, E-L-E-V-E-N! What the hell? Was Thursday ‘this big schoolday’ または something?!
After a lot of useless screaming they ended up in Cuddy’s office the 次 morning. But Cuddy being Cuddy wouldn’t give him the verdict unless he signed his performance review and did performance reviews of all of his team members. He kind of agreed to that and Cuddy as he should have known sided up with Amber, so every other weekend and Wednesdays till eleven it was…
Later that 日 he wanted to tell Wilson about a prank he was playing on his team, but Wilson had to swear he wouldn’t tell Amber. Wilson promised he wouldn’t tell and he had trusted him. He had left a vial of blood in the lab, which was positive for neurosyphilis, and put his name on the vial. Now he team thought he had syphilis and got him medication and as he got better, he got … nicer. Wilson thought it was a great prank and they went bowling together, it was work time so that was technically not Ambers time, right?
They had a great time bowling and he now realized he had missed that, hanging out with Wilson. But in that moment it didn’t feel that way because he still felt secure that the relationship between Wilson and Amber wouldn’t last. But an 時 after they had come back to the hospital, Kutner told him Amber had come to tell them that he had played a prank on them. In that moment it all crashed. It wasn’t bro’s before ho’s anymore.
The rest of the 日 he had lived in a blur, he didn’t even come up with the right diagnosis, Kutner did. Then he just wanted to get away from the hospital and Wilson and Amber, but he knew that it would be worse sitting at home, so he did something that would always lighten his 日 a little, tease Cuddy. He wrote her a performance review and went to her office to read it to her. She didn’t really react though, she just told him she had had a call from Amber. That was the last name he wanted to hear right now, but he’d better get this over with now so he could go ホーム to drown himself in vicodin an バーボン, ブルボン after this. Cuddy punished him because he went bowling with Wilson in Ambers time. And because bad days can always get worse he had to do his punishment together with Amber.
After what seemed like eternity he finally raced ホーム on his motorcycle. His leg was extremely painful so he popped some extra vicodin. He ordered take out, took a bottle of バーボン, ブルボン an a glass and placed himself on the couch. The ソファー, ソファ he still was sitting on now. He felt betrayed, Wilson had broken his promise and now he had ロスト HIS friend to a girly version of himself. Wilson didn’t need him anymore, he was replaced.
Taking another vicodin the combination of バーボン, ブルボン and vicodin finally knocked him out, thank god.
