Of course, once they're sure they're 安全, 安全です to be around for the other- remember, Elsa's terrified that her "gifts" will do Anna harm- that's why she undergoes such a degree of "treatments" such as the gloves... she's desperate to master this ability that caused Anna to almost *DIE*; that's what freaked Elsa out and gave her effectively PTSD. That's what's going on in the story: the older girl has PTSD, and the younger one hasn't a clue what that's about!
Respect isn't out of the picture, it's there, but it's not a major ingredient, because the theme is about keeping your neighbor 安全, 安全です from あなた harming them till you're sure あなた *won't* harm them.
