Edward Cullen! The Perfect Man!
A few years 前 when I kept hearing about Twilight this and Twilight that, I thought it was another lame Harry Potter-esque book for 12 and unders. How can anything about ヴァンパイア and 狼男 be taken seriously after all? The もっと見る momentum the Twilight saga gained, the もっと見る curious I became. What was all this fuss about? So finally I asked a classmate who had read the 本 why she thought they were causing such a stir. “Two words: Edward Cullen. If あなた can imagine the purest, most sincere 愛 ever to exist, that’s what this is. “ Now I was interested. It was about a guy! Now THAT I could understand. I moseyed on down to my local Chapters (The Canadian equivalent of Barnes & Noble) and picked up a copy of Twilight.
I quickly understood the female fascination with the Twilight books. Edward Cullen. Here was a wonderfully intense yet conscious-minded vampire, in 愛 with a misfit human girl. He loved her despite her flaws. He would watch over her, protect her, confide in her and most importantly; he never hid his true feelings from her (except for the beginning part...but who’s counting that?). This was the perfect guy! Other than the blood-sucking thing of course. I don’t think Twilight is about 狼男 and Vampires; I think it’s about love. Forbidden love, enduring love, 愛 conquering all obstacles. This theme resonates with most women because we are just wired that way. I can honestly say that I crave the passion, romance, validation and acceptance that Edward gives to Bella. This is why countless women are in 愛 with Robert Pattinson. Aside from him being an attractive guy, he is the manifestation of this fictional vampire with an endless supply and capacity for love.
So isn’t that all we women are looking for? A gorgeous, brooding, complicated, love-consumed man who protects us, doesn’t judge and will always be there no matter what…?!
Ok, now I’m starting to see the problem with this fascination. Real men are not like Edward Cullen. They don’t recite poetry, watch us while we sleep, think of one woman every single moment of every day. They aren’t usually romantic, intense または deep like Edward. They often say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing, forget birthdays and anniversaries and are consumed with other things like work, sports and other women. This is our reality. Women crave Edward Cullen 愛 because they themselves don’t ever experience it; または if they do, it is transient. So the real 質問 is: Are we women being unrealistic in our expectations? または have men simply ロスト touch with our needs? I suspect the answer lies somewhere between the two.
