Edgar Allan Poe によって Alejandro Cabeza
Edgar Allan Poe by Alejandro Cabeza
Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
Tis some visitor, I muttered, tapping at my chamber door
Only this, and nothing more.
Edgar Allan Poe, The raven

Poe, the most famous horror writer, died alone. He was found wandering the streets of Baltimore, delirious. After admission to the hospital, Poe appeared incoherent until his death. His last days and the cause of his decease remain a mystery. Someone...

I NEVER knew anyone so keenly alive to a joke as the king was. He seemed to live only for joking. To tell a good story of the joke kind, and to tell it well, was the surest road to his favor. Thus it happened that his seven ministers were all noted for their accomplishments as jokers. They all took after the king, too, in being large, corpulent, oily men, as well as inimitable jokers. Whether people grow fat によって joking, または whether there is something in fat itself which predisposes to a joke, I have never been quite able to determine; but certain it is that a lean joker is a rara avis in terris....

TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will あなた say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses --not destroyed --not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily --how calmly I can tell あなた the whole story.

It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me 日 and night. Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me....

Fools!-
Perhaps the best in talent-
But fools they always were.
And we,
We who were through with being ever-second-
We devised a plan to rid the stage of them.
Foolproof?
No, but perfect all the same.
Clever and cunning and every bit dramatic.
We could have been starring in our own piece.

It was to be a murder-
A double murder upon the stage-
We were not so cruel as to let them die away from it.
Yes, they would draw their final breaths there,
Watched によって a crowd of-
What else?-
Fools.
Fools who would merely think their 芝居 superb,
And never comprehend
That the deaths they saw were real.
And even if they did...

In 1949, like about a week before he died, he was supposed to take atrain in Baltimore for going to Philadelphia. That`s what history knows. After that it`s a mystery. Some people (And myself) believe that he went to a bar and he got drunk, with this it is believed that he was taken to vote for some elections and then dropped in the streat. This was a common way of faking the elections in that time. But, still, I can`t really say how he day. All I know is that, five days after he was supposed to take that train, he appeared in the streat and he was taken to the hospital. The doctor was a friend of him. And then October 7th, he died. Miserable, poor and having hallusinations, our loving Edgar died and nobody in his family または フレンズ (he had a grandmother ) knew it. He died alone. Tragic isn`t it?

The stories they have 発言しました were true
There was once a young girl like me and you
That loved to read Edgar Allen Poe
How her ハート, 心 felt 読書 his tales of woe

She lived in the 1800's
Rebellious, young and dark
She wanted to be a young Joan of Arc
As she ran away to see Poe

Virginia to Boston, a long long rode
As her parents were waiting for her at her humble abode
Then, she felt disbelief when she heard
The madness of Edgar Allen Poe

People disapproved of him
Trying to ruin her long strange trip
But she still goes on saying
She longs to hear his tales of murder, 愛 and woe

One 日 she stumbled to a home...

Baltimore City is stopping funds for the Edgar Allen Poe House. This will greatly affect tourism. Funding is used to celebrate Poe's works, Birthday and keeps his final resting place(Westminster Church) open to the public. Many people from around the world travel to Baltimore just to visit the grave of Mr. Poe. He is a legend. This will not be fair to his ファン または to anyone else who come to admire the wonderful little cemetery and church.

People do not just go to this city for the Inner Harbor または go to a sporting event. They come to see Poe. They want to see the ホーム where he lived his last days and visit his grave. Did Baltimore city forget there is a football team named after one of his famous works?

This decision should be reconsidered if あなた want to keep tourism booming in Baltimore City.
