Aladdin is one of the most heroically bada** animated characters in existence. Both are heroic but Aladdin saves the day and if you count the TV series he's always out smarting the villain and saving the day. Shang is heroic but it's kind of sad that he's a fully trained military man who's been working on his training for years but he has to get rescued quite a lot by a girl who's only been training for a few months.

Aladdin can't get himself out of his own situations- he is at complete mercy of a carpet at one point

I can't say anymore. Both were saved by someone else but they also saved many others.

He's always getting himself into some kind of trouble and the carpet always comes to rescue him.

He should have been voted out a looooooong time ago. He needs way more rescuing than Flynn and Eric put together! And is less heroic than Shang, who leads an army and takes on the huns. He might have died without Mulan, but he would have died fighting!

He often gets into trouble and needs help from Genie or the Carpet.

I don't think (Wait I know) he should be in the top two. He should have gone out a lot time ago, Abu (Jail), Genie (Every other time), Carpet all save his butt a number of times, I think the prince and prince charming should have stayed over him (He should have went out with Naveen round 2)
