Animaluco's 上, ページのトップへ 10 Series - Best DP 映画 Screenplays

In the 次 months, I'll write a series of 8 記事 (well, I'll continue only if あなた like them, of course). The first 7 記事 will be about separate aspects of the DP 映画 (Score, princess, couple, screenplay, villain, sidekicks and animation/art), and in the final 記事 I'll make the average of the grades I gave the 映画 in each aspect and make my お気に入り DP 映画一覧 = )

10. Cinderella - 6,75

This movie's screenplay has nothing special. Though it doesn't 表示する any continuity/logical problems (not that I have noticed), it has nearly no action (only a tension moment in the last minutes) and there are way too many unnecessary scenes with the mice. Somethings happen too slow and somethings happen too fast (like its ending).

09. Aladdin - 7,0

I thought about putting this in the #10 spot, somehow forgiving Cinderella's filler parts for being an older movie, but my intention was to rank the 映画 from an objective point of view, so I think Aladdin's screenplay is slightly better because it definetely doesn't lack in action. However, out of all the ディズニー Movies, this one has the biggest logical problems. I could spend hours naming them, but the single fact of Jafar not recognizing アラジン is enough to make the plot stupid.

08. The Princess and the Frog - 7,5

The first 25 分 of the movie are perfect. Everything moves fast and clearly. However, as everybody knows, the middle part of the movie is filled with filler scenes and filler songs, and the last moments lacked a lot in action compared to other DP Movies. And it still has some logical problems, like I wrote link.

07. Sleeping Beauty - 7,75

This screenplay doesn't have any clear logical problem, though it was kinda forced when the 妖精 left Aurora alona exactly in the 日 Maleficient's spell was about to be cursed. Besides, the middle part can be kinda slow and boring, specially if あなた don't appreciate its classic score.

06. Beauty and the Beast - 8,0

This was the first ディズニー Animated Movie to have its screenplay completed before the アニメーション was started, but I don't think it has one of Disney's best screenplays, because it has serious issues with the time thing. The time Belle spent in the 城 is enough for a season to pass, but it doesn't seem to take much time since Maurice left the 城 and went there again. And did Lefou really stay all that time in Belle's door? The screenplay also makes a mistake によって dedicating too much time to the initial scenes and it lacks a better development in the couple's relationship.

05. Pocahontas - 8,25

This screenplay is OK. Not a lot of filler parts (in fact, the scenes with Meeko and Percy were necessary as comic relief), and all the scenes seem to have a function in the story. The biggest problem was the excuse they found to start the battle between the natives and the english men - Why on earth would the indians hide that gold?

04. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - 8,5

Some of あなた may think this one is a bit too high, but I disagree. It doesn't have any logical problems and it has a nice final action scene. Its only problems are 2 scenes with the dwarfes that are too long - The first one when they get ホーム and discover that someone's at the house and the 秒 during their bath.

03. Mulan - 9,0

This movie has a very clean and clear screenplay, with definite acts and nearly no filler scenes. I am putting it behind the 次 2 映画 because one of the final elements - The huns emerging from the snow seemed a bit too forced as an excuse to continue with the story.

02. Tangled - 9,25

塔の上のラプンツェル has an amazing screenplay. It has not a single filler scene and I think that it has the element that avoided the movie to flop like PatF. In fact, a movie released in 2010 has to manage to keep the audience atention during all the scenes, and 塔の上のラプンツェル manages to do that, including amazing action scenes. I'll put it in #2 because of how easily Mother Gothel seemed to discover that Rapunzel left the tower with Flynn. And how Rapunzel managed to hide that crown during a whole day.

01. The Little Mermaid - 9,50

あなた people can complain because this is #1 in my 一覧 again, but I can't find a single problem in this screenplay. This movie flows clearly and fast, with もっと見る action scenes than any animated movie released upon 1989 - In fact, it started the tradition of having action scenes before the climax in animated movies. It has no filler parts and not a single logical problem. All the parts that could bring boring scenes (like the tour in the city) were shorten the maximum. However, I won't give it 100% because of the song "Les Poissons" -It was very funny, but a bit unnecessary.

IsaacKuo I find this review interesting, although not what I expected. I'd call it a review of plots rather than the screenplay. To me, the most important thing about a screenplay is the quality of the dialog...logical plot consistency is just for bonus points so long as it doesn't harm enjoyment. Your review doesn't say anything about the dialog. Anyway, I disagree with some of your assessments of the plots/pacing: Beauty and the Beast: I disagree most strongly with your problems with the timing. If you don't worry about sequels and just look at the movie itself, it's clear that Belle only stays in the castle for a little more than 24 hours. A season doesn't pass, it's just a snowstorm. Keep this timing in mind and rewatch the movie. It's actually very consistent with that timeline. As for how quickly Belle and Beast fall for each other--it's really the same timing as The Little Mermaid, Shrek, Enchanted, and Tangled. Sure, Belle wasn't instantly attracted to Beast when they first met, but she starts seeing him differently on the first night when he's severely injured saving her life. So, instead of being instantly attracted, she starts being attracted a few hours after first meeting him. In that respect, it's more like Shrek or Enchanted than TLM or Tangled. Sleeping Beauty: I'd argue that this movie has disastrous pacing problems all around, but that's a matter of personal taste. I'll note a big logical problem, though--the fairies put everyone in the kingdom(s) to sleep, without considering the possibility that her true love is among them. Luckily for them, Prince Phillip is riding around the forest at the time, presumably headed for the cottage which he somehow knows the location of. (One imagines he simply visits every cottage in the forest, one at a time, ala Prince Edward in Enchanted.) Pocahontas: I disagree with your plot problem. It is perfectly consistent with Ratcliffe's stupidity and desperation. Put simply, Ratcliffe is an idiot who desperately needs to believe that there's gold in Virginia. It's his only chance to redeem himself. He starts off with the ridiculous idea that simply digging at random will produce this gold, and never shows any signs of higher intelligence beyond that. Ratcliffe does show some political talent, in his modest ability to manipulate public opinion, but he's still dumb as a post. Ratcliffe's stupidity does serve to make a serious point though--which is that people can die and wars can be started by stupid people for stupid reasons. Ratcliffe is bumbling and incompetent, but not harmless! Tangled: As much as I love Tangled, there is one major plot inconsistency. When Mother Gothel hurries back to the tower to check on Rapunzel, it clearly takes her until night-time for her to break into the old entrance and search the tower. Then the story cuts back in time, "in the meantime", showing what Flynn and Rapunzel have been up to during this time. However, Mother Gothel next appears to spy on them in the Snuggly Duckling--at lunchtime! Still in the middle of the day! This is simply impossible. But the thing about this inconsistency is...it simply does not harm enjoyment of the story. So there's a plot hole, which 99.9% of the audience won't notice due to the non-sequential scene order. So what? As for Rapunzel hiding the crown all day--it's really unclear that she did. By the second day, Eugene was in love with Rapunzel. It's not clear exactly when he felt more interested in Rapunzel than the crown, but it's clear that this occurred by the time she offered the sachel to him. He wasn't worried about the crown. It wasn't going anywhere. His new dream was really quite simple--show Rapunzel the floating lights, and he gets to have Rapunzel [i]and[/i] the crown. His plan was still to go live on some island surrounded by piles of money. He just wanted to live on this island with Rapunzel rather than alone. It's only when the Stabbingtons show up that he decides to give up on the crown. Considering how close Rapunzel came to dying the last time, he thought it would be better and safer to bribe them away. The Little Mermaid: I don't like Les Poissons, but I can understand why it was necessary. Personally, I would have rather seen Eric and Ariel's dinner date, but there are two problems with that. One is that it might not have really worked because Ariel can't talk, and Eric seems too smitten to do anything but gaze at Ariel. The other is that the target audience of kids would have been bored by it.

Swanpride I would have put tangled first, because the whole scene with Louis and Sebastian is a totally unnecessary comic-relief filler scene, which has bearing to the plot at all. Actually....I think I would have put Mulan first and The Little Mermaid third. I also see everyone acting as if they are blind in Aladdin as a bigger problem than the Mice scenes in Cinderella, especially if you are ready to overlook all the dwarves filler in Snow White, which take much more time away than the mice in Cincerella. (And who cares about the action?). I would have put Cinderella way higher, because there isn't a single problem with the screenplay. At least the scenes of the mice making the dress have a purpose (giving Cinderella hope, which then gets destroyed again, which is way more emotional than her simply staying back while everyone goes to the ball), while the dwarfes washing themselves serves no purpose at all.

Swanpride @IsaacKuo It's not nighttime when Gothel breaks into the tower...I really don't get why you think it is.

Jessikaroo @IsaacKuo I agree with Swanpride, it wasn't nighttime, and do you know it was noon at the Snuggly Duckling. And saying that Beauty and the Beast's time frame was only 24 hours seriously diminishes the movie and how it took time for Belle to fall for Beast, it kind of crushes one of Disney's greatest romances and it's the only saving grace of the movie to me, so I highly disagree. @Animaluco, I greatly look forward to the rest of your articles. I may disagree with some of the placings, but it was well written and you made some very good points. Good job!

IsaacKuo It was in the late afternoon when Gothel arrived at the tower. Based on the lighting and shadows, the sun was low in the West at the time. It was nighttime by the time she finishes breaking through the old entrance and reaches the top. The coolness of the soft light entering from the glass windows was moonlight, not late afternoon sunlight. And it was lunchtime when Flynn and Rapunzel went to the Snuggly Duckling. Flynn said, "Are you hungry? I know a great place for lunch." Believe me, I've obsessively reviewed that portion of Tangled to try and figure out a way to make everything make sense. It's impossible. The closest I've come is assuming the sudden appearance of dark clouds while Gothel is breaking into the tower, but even that scenario requires a highly uncharacteristic lighting mistake in the shots when Gothel arrives at the tower. (Which would be very odd, because the lighting in [i]every[/i] other scene accurately reflects the time of day and movement of the Sun.) @Jessikaroo - Sorry if you don't like it, but that's what's actually shown in the movie. They could have tried to show more passage of time by mixing up morning/afternoon/night or showing a variety of weather, but they didn't. Instead, there's just one unbroken sequence of morning to afternoon to night, and a steady sequence of the previous night's snow gradually melting throughout the day.

Swanpride It was sunlight...but the curtains were closed, so it looked a little bit darker. Well, that and they deliberatly created a scene of "emptyness" by avoiding bright colors, but that's not supposed to be moonlight. Yes, they are clouds, for the mood. The scene would have less impact if everything in the tower was shown in bright sunlight. That's not odd, that's a normal arrangement. The coolness of the light is supposed to reflect a certain mood, not a certain time of day. I also doubt that it was noon when Rapunzel reached the Ugly Duckling. After all, the sun was allready going down when they left the river.

IsaacKuo @Swanpride - Umm...no. Mother Gothel ripped the curtains on the window open, and it was still dark. That's when she saw the glint of the crown in the moonlight. Also, the main door/window was open (that's how Rapunzel left, leaving no one else behind to close the main door/window). It would seem to have been afternoon when they reached the Snuggly Duckling, but still considered lunchtime. They take an unknown amount of time to walk through the caves to reach the waterwheel. It could have been hours.

AnimaIuco @Swanpride I'm pretty sure the mice scenes are more numerous and longer than the dwarfes' ones. There are only 2 with the dwarfes, while the mice try to get their lunch and there is that long sequence with Gus and Lucifer, there is the dress-making scene, the scene when Jack and Gus go after the pearls...

starlight77 I didn't really get this article. I'm not good at reading analytical stuff.

Swanpride @Animaluco Believe me, the scene in which the Dwarves entering their home alone is at least 15 minutes long! Then you add the washing scene (which isn't particular short either), and the scene in which you can watch the dwarves sleep. Add the silly song and the dwarves take over way much of the movie than the mice. Plus, the scene with the mice have a purpose. The food hunt ends in Cinderella getting additional work, the dress is needed to up the drama, and the key is a key scene (pun intended). The scenes with the dwarves are mostly filler, especially the washing! @IsaacKuo Doesn't look like moonlight to me, not at all.
