Now that I’ve read the interview, I honestly don’t understand what the big deal is. This was blown way out of proportion imo, probably due to the fact that Damon and Elena ファン have been waiting so long and our couple is prone to taking baby steps フォワード, 前進, 楽しみにして that are followed によって huge steps backward. So I can understand the frustration, but still, I don’t think the quote is necessarily a bad thing.

So this is just my take on it:

“He’s no longer convinced he should be with Elena.”
Isn’t that kind of a good thing? When couples get closer to that moment when they’re finally together, it usually comes before one または both of them have ロスト hope that they’re ever be together. If they didn’t go through that stage, there wouldn’t be any high stakes and we wouldn’t care as much. Besides, maybe with him moving backward, Elena will start pushing forward.

Damon is in 愛 with Elena and her boyfriend is on the road, so it’s prime opportunity to swoop in, right? Not quite.
Seriously, would any of us be happy with Damon taking advantage of Stefan’s absence and going after Elena right now? I wouldn’t. If he went after her right now, that would mean: 1. Damon’s still the antagonist in this story who we are not supposed to root for and 2. even if he does manage to seduce her, it will only be temporary until Stefan came and whisks her out of his clutches.

That’s not what I want for DE. I would rather see them work together to get Stefan back, watch them grow even closer through the process, and then have something happen between them. It would be such a cheat imo if the only reason we got our couple was because Stefan was out of the way. I want Elena to want Damon, not just chose him as a runner up.

“I know a lot of people would like for that to happen, but the reality of it is that he’s done some pretty messed up stuff,” Somerhalder says. “Even if he does get in her good graces he’ll always do something to screw it up.” Also, they’re polar opposites. “She wants a life of peace with no death and he’s [into] destructive killing. It’s like trying to watch a lion and a ガゼル be friends, it’s just not meant to be. They’re just two different animals. One is a predator and one is prey.”
I disagree that they’re totally opposites (Damon might be a predator, but Elena is in no way a victim), but I can see that they do want different things out of life and Damon does feel like he’s no good for her. That’s not a bad thing. That just adds built in, natural conflict for the pairing. If couples don’t have internal conflict, they’re usually pretty boring. The conflict between Damon and Elena is not only making their relationship a constantly evolving one, it’s also building on them as individual characters. The best relationships change and even improve who the characters are. Damon and Elena do that for each other.

So basically, long post short, this interview is not the end of the world. It just gives us a clearer picture of where Damon’s at right now and IMO, he’s closer to being the one for Elena than he has ever been.

Plus, on a positive note, the interview was followed によって an embedded vid with a great quote from Ian on why Damon is the better choice for Elena:

“He gives her something that Stefan doesn’t… He makes her smile. If you’ve ever noticed, despite all the sh*t that’s going down, he has the ability to make her smile and it’s awesome to see her smile.”

If that’s not a good sign for Delena, I don’t know what is.
