Hiii Bamonistas! <3
I'm not the most active Bamonista on this here lovely spot of ours and I've been kicking myself for not contributing much because I absolutely adore this spot and all the beautiful Bamonistas here. Anyway I sorta made a lil promise to one Bamonista here (SalvatoreBroFTW/Sara *wave*) to post some thoughts on Bamon and I thought I'd post this 記事 here which I 投稿されました on another board and hopefully あなた might like it. I wrote it as a response to the claims of DE ファン that Bonnie has absolutely NO impact on Damon on the show, her only means of challenging him is via her witchy juju and his 愛 for Elena is the biggest sign that she's the key to unlocking his humanity.
Anyway enough of my waffling, here's what I wrote ;)
I personally think the "power reason" isn't specifically correlating to just "supernatural" power for me...it's もっと見る to do with the power of inner character. I think the strength Bonnie has isn't just down to her magic and that can't be the only reason that Damon's drawn/could be drawn to Bonnie (I always feel the need to put in this disclaimer: this does NOT mean I'm saying he's in 愛 with her). Also when Bamon ファン say Bonnie "challenges" Damon, I can confidently say we certainly don't mean exclusively via Fire/"Headaches" because there's already proof that Bonnie does challenge Damon WITHOUT the use of her スーパーナチュラル ability and it started from the moment they met. Their first scene in Haunted was when I first glimpsed Bonnie challenging Damon and it had absolutely nothing to do with her magic because that was happening at a point when she didn't have any real clue about it. She challenged him によって simply standing firm on her principles and she certainly projected that to him and continues to do so till today. It's not about the aneurysms and 火災, 火 because those incidents only happened in S.2....so they can't be recognised as the only way Bonnie challenges Damon cos that would mean discounting everything that took place in S.1 cos it was right from the get go that she was standing up to him, not letting his irresistable charm sway her and drew her boundaries.
I believe Damon has grown to admire and RESPECT Bonnie because of what he has seen of her loyalty and firm resolve in doing good and that's why their S.1 finale moments were so powerful. I was ecstatic that Damon was recognising that he deserved the consequences of his actions and that it was because of Bonnie that I was seeing that for the first time. Which is why I get suprised when I read about how Bonnie has had absolutely no impact on Damon in relation to his "humanity".
I know the biggest debating issue between between Bamon and Delena ファン is which of the two girls brings out/has the greater potential of bringing out Damon's humanity and it's mostly vehemently claimed that it's ALL down to Elena/that she's the ultimate one who'll do that but ofcourse I disagree. Elena is もっと見る vocal about it yes...and she certainly makes it very clear (in lecture format) that she is trying her hardest to draw out that humanity in Damon which is buried deep inside but the all important 質問 for me is...Does it work? imo No it doesn't because if anything Damon has just become もっと見る and もっと見る adamant on resisting his humanity and as a result just abuses もっと見る innocent lives. I don't see Elena's method ever bringing the right kind of progress for Damon and when I watch what it's doing to him, I literally cringe. I think the problems didn't start after Damon confessed that he loved her...I also wouldn't say the root of them is all to do with this Love. No I think they started from the moment it was clearly established that Elena could not hold anything against Damon especially his killing. That for me has been the biggest catalyst for how dysfunctional Damon's feelings for her and his general disposition has been lately. For one, I don't see how he's supposed to allow Elena to bring out his humanity when he can't even respect her own decision about HERSELF and that lack of respect stems from his knowledge that he can get away with anything after a short amount of time and I certainly don't believe it has anything to do with Elena being extremely understanding but rather it's to do with the fact that when it comes to Damon, Elena loses all sense of firm resolve (to put it delicately) and Damon knows this and takes advantage of it. I forget the exact words but didn't he once even say that she shouldn't bother staying angry because they both knew it wouldn't last?...Wasn't this occuring after he killed her little brother? And wasn't he proven right in the 次 episode? ... I just think their interactions are always lacking respect (more so Damon for Elena).
Just because Damon managed to feel 愛 for Elena does not automatically mean she's the key to unlocking his humanity. This is one other thing I don't get...see Damon has never had any issues with feeling love. He has loved a woman for over 145 yrs and thus to me, it makes no sense when I see コメント stating that Damon's "Love" for Elena is a sign または is the re-awakening of his humanity. I would have believed it if there was proof of that on the show...if there was a faze where we saw Damon fighting never to feel 愛 again and then in realistic timing, he learns to open his ハート, 心 to 愛 again によって falling for Elena. But Alas! That has not happened on the show. I think there was a golden opportunity for that to happen when Katherine returned and shattered his ハート, 心 in the S.2 premiere. I mean surely after loving for so long and getting crushed like that, Damon should have had some serious reservations about jumping right back into the Sea of Luuurve または maybe found that nifty lil switch again to shut off the ability to feel 愛 for awhile...but NOPE, he just dived back in (without a paddle) and was confessing his 愛 to Elena so quickly, I'm still dizzy from it. Surely that shows that Damon seems to have absolutely no problem in feeling that particular human emotion...thus I don't understand why his 愛 for Elena is so special in helping him rediscover his humanity.
I think the biggest problem and hindrance for Damon to rediscover his humanity is his lack of Value for Human Life. His ability to feel 愛 is not the link the 表示する has made to Damon's humanity. That scene with Jessica strongly indicated that it's the choice Damon makes to value/not value a human life is the "existencial crisis" または what determines the triggering of humanity dormant inside him. I think it was even established way before in S.1 because we were seeing lots of Damon dealing with all kinds of stuff (grief/rejection/boredom) によって killing people. So since this is the determinate factor of Damon's humanity...how exactly is Elena the key? It could take a long time if I went into the fact that Elena hasn't done much reacting to Damon killing people (um I think she's even helped cover up the shhh*) but all I know is that when Elena's the focal point, Damon's lack of Value For Human Life sure is made poignant on the show...so logically I'm inclined to believe that she's not the key to his humanity.
In contrast, when I look at Bonnie, I start to feel that there is a postive impact または the potential for a strong positive impact on Damon. I'll explain. Despite Bonnie not caring a great deal (if at all) to strap on a pair of hiking boots to trek over Damon's mountainous barriers to find that ever elusive humanity of his and her lack of *cough*spanking*cough* lecturing prowess--I still see that she is having または もっと見る precisely, her personal tendencies are having an impact on Damon. (Argh again the darn disclaimer: Impact does NOT equal L-O-V-E). Now this impact may not be so in-your-face but that doesn't mean it's non-existant...it's just もっと見る subtle and perhaps only Bamon ファン will note it because we care to look deeper into their moments. Drawing again on Damon's humanity being connected to Non-Value of human life...why do I believe Bonnie has the best potential to be the key to unlocking his humanity? Well it's simple...because no character on the 表示する has made their value for life もっと見る clear to Damon than Bonnie and no character has been もっと見る firm in driving that point ホーム like Bonnie has done. And no she hasn't done so ONLY with スーパーナチュラル method (see few paragraphs up). See I've always been taught that if ever I wanted to inspire something in someone, lip-service isn't the most effective tool but it's rather through leading によって example that packs the best パンチ so to speak. Bonnie can inspire Damon to have value for human life because not only has she shown it through speech but she also leads によって personal example. Bonnie may not be actively working to get Damon's humanity to surface but rather she's just doing her thing, being the change she wishes to see in the world (thank あなた mahatma ghandi for those pearls of wisdom)--Bon stands up for her belief in protecting people and most importantly, she does not brush off the loss of life as if it's just a case of losing your marbles in a sand-pit. Damon recognises this value of Bonnie's and whenever he is around her, I glimpse a tiny dent in his outlook on human life (which he then goes and smooths out によって f***ing up when he's not around her). For instance, he understood that he deserved her hate because his actions did not coincide with her values and he also didn't retaliate after the device-fiasco because he knew Bonnie was just trying to protect lives and again he understood her values: "No good deed goes unpunished with you" -- "It doesn't undo the bad" ...I 愛 THEM! :inlove: ...another example...in the 仮面舞踏会 episode, it was Bonnie who spoke up about her reservations about people possibly getting hurt to which Damon reassured her it would only be Katherine getting hurt. I found that interesting that he was the one doing the reassuring...infact he does it often. In 2x06 he 発言しました "All あなた have to do is touch Mason Lockwood again and see if he gave Katherine the moonstone" -- he understood that there's no way Bonnie would do anything further...not because she's just "predictable" but he's known her long enough and she's been direct with him enough to know that she values life...even the lives she doesn't have any emotional attachment to (eg Carter, Luka, Jonas...Mystic Falls Residents). And in 2x17, Damon was being disrespectful over Luka's dead body and Bonnie told him to quit being disrespectful, he immediately obliged. I mean I was shocked...this is Damon...he is famously known for not dealing with dead bodies the conventional way...he's done it all, burning, throwing in rivers and decompose in trucks and yet once in that moment with Bonnie, he was prepared to go down the もっと見る respectful route. She wasn't commanding him nor did she set his 尻, お尻 on fire...she just 発言しました it and was actually もっと見る absorbed in her own emotions at seeing Luka like that than changing Damon's attitude. And that showed that Damon was reacting もっと見る to Bonnie's disposition and what he already knows of her respect for human life. Which makes me 愛 the scene in 2x18 so much! How gentle he was with her body and how respectful he was with her non-dead body because AGAIN it was with Bonnie that I was seeing Damon not doing things his usual way. (See non-dead UJ lol)
So Bonnie may not be directly seeking to go "Open Sesame!" up on Damon's humanity but I do notice that Damon seems to be indirectly responsive to her value for human life...which is the factor the 表示する has been drumming up as the trigger/seal of his humanity...sooo Bada bing bada BAMON! :D
That's the kind of impact I'm talking about...the subtle kind...it's what makes me along with many other Bamon ファン believe that Damon will change BECAUSE of Bonnie because he sees what human life means to her and he respects her principles. I don't take that lightly and it's definately deeper than it appears...the fact that Bamon don't have so much screentime and yet their journey is so layered and we can recognise what point things change between them slowly is what makes them so special for me. Bamon are exactly where I want them to be...even though they are nowhere near loving each other, they are building the もっと見る essential foundations first. Without RESPECT, trust and belief in each other's values and decisions, I don't think 愛 is even possible. <3
