CSI:マイアミ Tripp?

I was wondering what happened with Tripp, why is he not wearing a suit anymore and is now wearing a regular cop uniform. Every other season he was an investigator, has his character been bumped down to police detail or what? He was always with Horatio at every crime scene and now he is rarely shown. What's up?

What happened was Tripp took his Sargent's exam and passed now he is one. It says in the first episode of season 6

I watched the first episode and I didn't hear anything about it. I must have missed it somewhere.

It's when he is talking to the other detective, I can't remember his name, The one Calleigh likes and that guy says something along the lines of " oh i see they demoted you" and Tripp replies " no I've got stripes, just passed my Sargent's exam" I think but you need to double check it

even if he passed his Sargent's exam does he need to give up the suit. I'm just wondering I don't have a clue as to protocol.
