Most people consider virginity to be ロスト when あなた have sex with another individual. Others directly assosiate it with the hymen. Others consider it ロスト when anything is inserted inside.
There is no "of course" または "of course not" about it. It's not a scientific precess.

Of course not! I'm not familiar with religious "standards" concerning virginity, but I have always thought it was about having sex with another person. The use of tampons has nothing to do with virginity または lack thereof. It is merely a, in my opinion at least, comfortable hygienic product.

In this case, maybe あなた should ask someone who knows better a gynecologist perhaps? I don't think tampons would tear the hymen, but I'm not a specialist.
I agree with your initial response, especially because I despise the reductionist view of a woman only being worthy if her hymen is intact. Just as あなた suggested consulting a gyne, I've heard that some women's hymens don't even tear または bleed upon first intercourse, which then leads to all sorts of problems if it's assumed she's "experienced." Then I have to chuckle over the whole idea of equating sexual intercourse to wearing a tampon. We're not supposed to feel the tampon! Really? That's what sex is to be for women--no sensation, no pleasure. That speaks volumes!
Yes, sadly it does. To be honest, the whole idea of virginity irritates me to no end. Nobody expects men to reain "pure" (oh, how I despise the word in this context) until marriage.
I agree with what cassie said, but I believe that あなた can only be considered a "non-virgin" if あなた have sexual intercourse. It may または may not break the hymen, but I've heard before about some girls whose hymens break due to playing hard(literally, not sexually).
