He did not die. His アバター was shot and he woke up. Then he left the trailer with a mask on to go back into battle. Thats why he didn't help Jake, he wasn't there. あなた see him at the end of the movie when all the humans are leaving (except for a few including Norm).

Nope. Norm survived. His アバター got injured but at the final scene, where the humans left Pandora, あなた could see Norm (in アバター form) guarding the area. :)
