If Makos' scarf belonged to his father, then why is it red?

His father being an Earthbender.

Could his father gotten him from his wife (Mako's mother), maybe?

That would be the reason why Mako was a 火災, 火 bender and Bolin was a earth bender. But maybe Mako's Mom was a 火災, 火 bender and his Dad was a earth bender. I don't know for sure. But I think it's ether one of those :D

well in the the comic 本 which is created によって the makers of アバター and in the beginning of the 表示する it says that the republic of nations were created によって the 火災, 火 nation colonies . In the colinies both 火災, 火 and earth benders seem to harmoniously coexist with eachother in the the comic book series the promise part 123 there was this earthbender girl who considered herself as a 火災, 火 nation citizen so she wore both green and red
