How does Appa have descendants? How was he able to reproduce?

I haven't watched the latest few episodes of LoK (giving up on that 表示する out of despair, especially since I'm currently re-watching ATLA and can compare the two, making LoK's lack of awesomeness stand out even more, but that's besides the point), so I don't know if it's recently been explained, but if it has can someone tell me? If it hasn't, then does anyone have a plausible theory? Because I can't come up with one, other than a female バイソン somehow surviving the 火災, 火 nation attack.

They kind of just skipped over the details but yes, I think they came up with something like finding an island, temple grounds, または something. Which raises a lot of 質問 like how giant flying バイソン could remain hidden... they are big and they fly.

Maybe since there were so few, they didn't fly away from the island and had a smaller ホーム range to stay close to their mates?

LoK writers just needed a way to have もっと見る in the plot so they just made up an easy undetailed story.

I haven't actually watched anything but the first episode of LoK. I just assumed since Appa is some form of bison, so therefore he could breed with bison. I don't know though.
